Finding Café Durand was serendipitous. We were hungry and ready for any place to take a break. We’d just walked from the train station into Elne for an afternoon of exploration. As we came to the town center, this was the first open place we came upon. We weren’t sure about it at first glance—it’s a sports bar and betting place, quite brightly lit—but the daily menu was enticing on the board outside. Read moreWe came across Café Durand by chance, as we were waiting to take our car for repair that afternoon and were looking for somewhere to have lunch. Inside it's air conditioned and had horse racing on the big screen, with the waitress taking bets in between serving food and drinks. We dined outside in a courtyard setting, where there is a tree that must be 400 years old judging by its approximate 2.5m diameter. The service was excellent and the food was extremely well prepared.
