A Stretta Saint-Florent — Restaurant in Calvi

Where can I start... My girlfriend and I stayed in the lovely Saint-Florent for a week and we had 4 meals at 'A Stretta', between lunches and dinners.

The very first positive impression was given by the characteristic position of the restaurant (right on the narrow street that leads onto the main square), secondly, but very important, the very welcoming attitude of the owner Laurent and his colleague. Two very nice people, with a pleasant, professional and friendly 'savoir-faire'.

Now we can talk about the food... We visited many restaurants in Saint-Florent and the quality of the meal didn't always reflect the price. At 'A Stretta' you can find top quality produce, cooked to perfection with a very good wine/spirit selection.

Gut gemachtes Essen zu angemessenem Preis. Die Rezension schreiben wir aber nicht deshalb, sondern wegen folgender Anekdote: Wir saßen drinnen, und nach einer Weile kam eine Gruppe von 4 Erwachsenen und 2 Kleinkndern und bestellte Getränke und Essen. Eines der Kinder kreischte minutenlang, ohne dass die Eltern aktiv reagiert hätten (zum Beispiel mit dem Kind mal rausgehen). Irgendwann hörte das Kind doch auf, aber kurz darauf wiederholte sich der Vorgang nochmal genauso. Daraufhin kam der Besitzer und sagte dem Mädchen ruhig aber sehr bestimmt, dass es nun gut sei und sie aufhören müsse. Die Eltern verließen daraufhin das Restaurant, ohne dass Essen zu bezahlen (die Getränke laut Besitzer scheinbar schon), da sie es nicht ok fanden, dass der Besitzer so mit dem Kind gesprochen hatte. Der Besitzer entschuldigte sich bei uns mehrmals für den Vorfall. Wir sprachen ihm umgekehrt unseren Respekt für so viel Rückgrat aus, dass er in einer solchen Situation so besonnen aber bestimmt gehandelt hat und den finanziellen Verlust (und mögliche schlechte Bewertungen) in Kauf nahm. Wir haben selbst ein Kleinkind, Erziehung ist nicht leicht, und man sollte nicht darüber urteilen, wie sich andere Menschen in Krisensituationen verhalten, aber ein Kind 15 Minuten in einem Restaurant schreien zu lassen, ohne irgendetwas zu tun, erscheint doch dem Inhaber, den Angestellten und Gästen gegenüber sehr gleichgültig. Neben dem guten Essen und dem ehrlich freundlichen, schnellen Service war uns das Rückgrat des Inhabers eine positive Bewertung wert. :-) Wir kommen gerne wieder...

We had a meal at A Stretta twice and both times every single dish was outstanding. I can recommend to try their Burrata & Carpaccio, Croque au Lonzu (my husband’s favourite dish from the whole Corsican trip!), Carpaccio de Boeuf and, definitely, Entrecôte Simmental. Even french fries they make are simply magical. And don’t forget about a dessert - their tiramisu was the best of the best, in our experience. Thank you!
