The place: a typical French café / PMU / restaurant with its terrace at a busy junction. Inside, the counter is busy with locals drinking and/or playing lottery or horse racing tickets and the rear of the bar is giving place to the restaurant which caters for weekly daily lunch menus. Reception was prompt and polite enough, the table service efficient but reflecting little enthusiasm. We placed our order from the daily offer. Both took the herring and potatoe salad which turned out to be average, for our main dishes we chose the Blanquette de Saumon with rice and the Confit de Porc au Miel et Thym with boiled potatoes. The Blanquette was what could be described as an unappetizing pale mix of shredded food in sauce, this came as a shock as a Blanquette should be made of small chunks at least. The first taste of it did not impress either. The immediate reaction was to ask ourselves where was the salmon ? The only touch of colour were a few rare carrots. A total disappointment. The other dish was no better at all. Being French and having a brother as a chef, I knew what a Confit de Porc would have to be. This was not it. The meat was oozing juices and seemed to have been boiled. It was edible of course but totally wrong as a result. What delicious flavour the honey and thyme would have given were totally diluted. We wanted some wine but they had no wine list available ! So we asked what house wine they had and what were the prices. We felt we should have been able to see from a list and not ask for it. We ordered a carafe of their apparently cheapest house wine which was half a litre of red Chinon for 11 euros. We found the price/quality ratio poor for this type of restaurant. We just could not face to order dessert and be further disappointed by the experience. Already our bill came to 38.40 euros which could have been acceptable for a good lunchtime menu but in this case this was a rip-off, leaving us very annoyed with our choice of restaurant considering we had researched our options in advance and were relying on the over 4 stars and general good reviews we read about it. It was hard to forget and not talk about this experience for the next few days. We know that you can still eat decent weekly lunch menus for under 20 euros /person in many places in France, we've eaten several during our holiday, this place is definitely not one to recommend nor...
