La Madeleine D'illiers — Restaurant in Chartres

We had been in Chartres all day and were staying in Illier Combray. I saw this restaurant and checked out the reviews on TA. Glad I did and glad we went here for dinner. Both my wife and I had the same items on the prix fix menu except for desert (that is what happens when you are married for over 30 years - you can order the same food). All three courses were absolutely fabulous. The first course of Scallops St. Jacques was the best I ever had. The veal was absolutely wonderful, and my wife actually finished her desert, saying the chocolate fondue was the best she ever had. I highly recommend them. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals at La Madeleine which came recommended to us by our B&B host.. We found ourselves savoring every bite as we enjoyed the quiet, friendly environment. The food was excellent, the atmosphere just as well. Neither the owner not the waiter spoke more then a few english words, but that did not get in the way of ordering and getting food. The presentation is great (as can be seen in the pictures) and the square in front of the church makes the experience very intimate.
