Gueuleton Segonzac — Restaurant in Cognac

Gueuletons and the sins of the flesh. If you are looking for theatre then this is the place to go. If you want to eat a LOT of raw flesh then you might also try Gueuletons. As for fine dining with any delicacy or nuance …then this is NOT where you will find it. Huge, 1980s style portions harking back to times when this was desirable. It’s all about meat and the name itself means ‘masculine’.

Honestly it was like descending into some kind of Grotesque hell or a scene from a Peter Greenaway film, complete with flames and animal carcasses everywhere from raw to dried and stuffed. My salmon starter was good enough but the rest was under seasoned, underwhelming and overpriced. It would have been better with half the quantity and a third less cost. We were travelling through Seconzac and our local host, had one comment when we said we were going to eat there …”beaucoup de viande” (I should have paid attention).

The staff were friendly though. The jovial chef patron who roasted himself along with all the meat, I mused as some kind of demon to tempt unwary travellers into Gross overindulgence, or perhaps the embodiment of that deadly sin. I wish I’d taken a photo of the signage the oversized ‘G’ with a fork in dark silhouette fiery tungsten backlight …Gluttony...

GUEULETON, Un concept donc des attentes. Bon vivant, amateurs de très bonne viande et de vin je me définirais plutôt comme amateur de convivialité. Je n'attends rien de plus que ce que l'on me promet. GUEULETON c'est la com que vous matraquez, "bienvenue chez les bons vivants" qui me fait adhérer à votre concept à 200% Déjà client et ravi de mon expérience GUEULETON, j'ai promis à mon épouse une soirée de bonne bouffe, un peu comme à la maison quand les copains viennent partager la côte de bœuf et le pif qui va bien ... elle a donc réservé dans votre restaurant de SEGONZAC en Charente. Que dire ?? La vérité, notre ressenti !! Pour celles et ceux qui lisent mes avis vous savez quand j'aime je le dis et quand c'est nul et bien je le dis aussi ! ACCUEIL inexistant CONSEILS VINS ET VIANDES inexistant PAIN RUSTIQUE (super u ou du genre) CUISSON DES VIANDES ratée RESPONSABLE SUR PLACE avec ses amis (bobos cognaçais) (Oups je suis pas arrivé avec minimum rolex et merco) donc nous n'avons pas eu la chance d'entendre sa voix ne serait-ce que pour un "bonjour" tellement simple et "convivial" !! Du coup, le rapport qualité prix ne correspond pas, une viande à 57 euros les 300gr maturée que je paye avec respect attend avec respect une cuisson digne de son rang. Je vais finir sur cette douce note dans laquelle je remercie Gina pour son écoute très pro quand nous partions.

Désolé, c'est juste un simple restaurant médiocre dans un concept pourtant prometteur. Pas bravo Pas conseillé Et...

This is great, there's a great menu with the main attraction being a wide selection of Beef breeds and weights of the available cuts for that day on the blackboard. Expertly cooked over the fire, giving theatre and wonderful flavour.
