I have been here now a few times since moving to the area last June. It was always busy in the summer because of it's lakeside position.
The owners daughter is very welcoming and the fish and chips are nicely prepared and the place is clean.
On the downside, the bar staff are totally out of their depth with no formal training and no french is spoken by the barman. A huge television over the bar with loud English radio music makes conversation difficult and on Saturday evening when I arrived with a friend who was having a crisis at home, it was a case of in, eat and out in under an hour as there were Northen English people surrounding the bar shouting and using unacceptable language in front of the staff who were happily participating in this manner.
It is not a place I would be happy with going again with another female friend of a sensitive disposition and I found the course language at full blast with strong nothern accents made me most uncomfortable and I am sure would put a lot of people off returning. I was ashamed to be English and was glad all clientele was northern English as local French like my friends would have been embarrassed. A disappointing, short evening out as we arrived at 7pm and were at home...
Read moreWe wanted to take our kids to watch the England Women’s 2025 Euros - spotted this place on google, but it said the place closed at 7, ie half time. So I called ahead earlier in the afternoon and the bar man confirmed that the pub would be staying open for the whole game. I double checked mentioning what it said on the website but he confirmed again the whole game would be shown. We travelled 30 minutes with the children to the place. On arrival the build up was being shown, however the bar man told me the game would be being switched off at half time. By now it was too late to return home to watch the game. So we ordered a drink, watched the first half and left. There were about 25 people in the pub all whom had to leave. We wouldn’t have bothered going if the information we had received had been correct.
A general comment on the place is that the decor was quite dated, we didn’t eat but the food looked very average.
Needless to say we would not be...
Read moreMy husband and I went there last night for the first time for a jazz and blues event. Lovely place, cosy atmosphere and my husband was delighted to find draught Strongbow on offer. Didn't have food so can't comment but chips smelled lovely! The staff were welcoming and friendly. The only thing that spoiled it was a group of rather drunk Brits at the end of the bar, who were very loud and using bad language. I'm not a prude and appreciate that they were on a night out too, but it spoiled it for me and we left after a couple of drinks. Even a member of the band announced he'd had enough of one of the loud Brits, who was calling out over the music! We will go back as it seems a nice place. Hopefully the ones who spoiled it aren't a permanent fixture. If I had children with me, I'd leave again if there was bad...
