Saying at the Bellier is a wonderful experience. Family run by multi-generational hoteliers (The Bellier Family), it has a slightly old-world feel to it. Friendly and helpful staff who really understand what a small hotel should be. The restaurant is spacious and bright, and lined with antiques. Food is all home-cooked and excellent. The Potatoes Gratine are superb. ||||The rooms at the back overlook a lovely small pond that also serves as a swimming pool, and an historic little stone chapel. ||||The town of La Chapelle is pleasant and very walkable - with several good restaurants, excellent bakeries, and charcuteries. Wonderful local cheeses in the Spar grocery. The town looks fairly modern - because the whole place was destroyed by the Nazis in WWI. The Vercors was a brave focus for the Resistance and paid the price. Now it is a fine central location for hiking and sightseeing in this beautiful area. Not far away is a striking museum and memorial to the Resistance, as well as some superb hikes. ||This was a return visit - two years before we stayed here for the first time and I had a medical emergency (suspected heart attack) - the hotel staff were wonderful and the local VOLUNTEER paramedics (The Pompiers - who double as also the firemen/women) were extraordinary. Not that I would recommend it - but I was treated to a nighttime trip in through the mountains (Hairpins and tunnels) in an ambulance with the Pompiers to the hospital in distant Romans-sur-Isere. And then a return trip once released at 1:00 AM driven back by my wife through the hairpins and tunnels to the hotel where one of the Bellier family had left the key to the hotel under the door mat. It is that kind of hotel! On this visit the family assisted me in finding and personally thanking those...

Read moreThe hotel is a family run small hotel just off the main street in La Chapelle with 12 bedrooms, a bar, a restaurant, a garden and a natural pool in which you can have a swim. Our en-suite room was slightly rustically furnished but we had plenty storage space and it was clean and tidy. There was a TV on the wall with French channels. The en-suite had a bath with shower attachment but nowhere to attach the shower head to the wall. We found the beds comfortable though the large square pillows took a little getting used to. Breakfast consisted of fruit, yoghurt, bread and freshly baked croissants with an excellent variety of tasty jams and tea/coffee, Evening meals were a real highlight, superb home cooking which we really enjoyed. Service was friendly and efficient and pricing very reasonable. There are no drinks making facilities in the rooms. Wi fi is available in the bar and in some rooms above the bar, but wi fi reception depends a bit on the number of people trying to access the service. ||La Chapelle is a small attractive town in magnificent countryside with shops and services providing most of what you are likely to need. It is some distance to the nearest large supermarket. There is a local market on Thursdays. We would be very happy to use this...
