Me and my boyfriend thought I would be nice to have lunch here together. De ( young) staff was nice. When we received our lunch I could not eat it. I did not like my lunch. The waitress asked me what was wrong. I said I did not like it because of the amount of cheese and the kind of cheese they used. My appetite was gone. After they brought my meal away the owner ( manager?) came to my to asked again what was wrong. When we asked the check from the waiter, my meal was still on the check although I only had one bite. I asked the waiter why it was still on the check and he said he was going to the manager. The manager came to me and asked me how i would like to pay. I said cash and gave him some money. He came back but he'd let me pay the whole check ( including the meal i did not eat). I went inside to asked him why he did that. He said that they only serve good food and that I had no taste. I said if i do not like it why do i have to pay for it. I understand that other people may like it but I did not. He answered "We do not help people like you''. I answered that this is not the way you’d help your guests. I got very uncomfortable while he was like one step close to me. Not to mention it was during the corona period. He made hand gestures and said that I’d had to leave. Sad for the staff who were trying to help. I never felt so uncomfortable, since I never...
Read moreTo be clear from a location and ambience point of view this was one of the best restaurants in Dieppe and a short walk from my hotel. The beer, wine and food I had there were lovely. I felt immersed in cafe society here. I loved the people watching and the joie de vivre of the locals just living and loving life. I switched to paying by cash as it's so much easier to tip. Felt like it helped endear me to the staff a bit. They were all lovely but sometimes I felt like I was in the way. Surely it's natural to smile at a new customer and make them feel welcome? I think my experience was skewed because my 50th birthday, which I was celebrating in the town, fell on a Monday and as you will probably already know, the museum of Dieppe is open every day except Mondays and Tuesdays... The other weird thing is that the cafe name checks Edith Piaf et al. as previous visitors but they don't have guest WiFi??? Mystifying. However you must must must eat here it's a beautiful place. On my last morning in Dieppe I was having a coffee outside and an impromptu fish market was set up with the freshest selection of fish. It was brilliant. It made my holiday because in the UK we are so removed from our fish stocks. If only I could buy fish that was caught on the same day! Please do visit Cafe des...
Read moreWe visited early October with our dog and as it was a cold day we opted to eat inside. The interior is beautyful, of the art nouvoue style. We received a warm welcome at 1pm, which as you can imagine was a very busy time of day for them. The food we ordered was of a high standard in both taste and presentation. Reasonably priced for a city centre too, though the Leffe blond was expensive. One interesting observation was the owners allowed their own dog to wander around the cafe whilst people we eating. This might put a lot of none dog lovers off, even though he was no trouble at all and certainly no threat to our dog that was sitting under our table. The seating outside would have also been a nice place to sit and watch the world go by, assuming you can put up with the smokers that is. All in all, we came away having thoroughly enjoyed our meal and felt quite stuffed too. We are more than happy to recommend this...
