Jeu de Quilles — Restaurant in Figeac

What a great (and tasty) experience. Helpful, polite and quick waitstaff. Interesting and well executed food. Super fun window in the back framing the kitchen.

This is clearly the restaurant of someone who loves food. My wife and I stopped here on our way through town and had a duck breast special. I have eaten at many fine restaurants in France (and many other countries for that matter) and this is one of the better casual establishments I have had the luck of finding. I would put this lunch up against almost anything I’ve had for quality, flavor and presentation. The price was fair and not at all excessive. Thank you for everything Jeu de Quilles, we will be back!

Oh, and I read the negative reviews here- needless to say I’m baffled. France needs more restaurant...

l'expérience: Dans le cœur de Cajarc, le jeu de quilles propose une cuisine qui puise dans le terroir lotois pour livrer une expérience à la fois moderne et sensible. Formé aux cotés du chef Pascal Bardet (le Gindreau), le chef actuel s'affirme avec un style propre, où la créativité se mêle à la précision technique et au respect du produit.

L'assiette:

ENTREE: L'œuf parfait annoncé, en réalité mollet s'accompagnait d'une déclinaison d'oignons, de croutons à l'ail, d'une mousseline légère et de chips de poitrine de porc. Malgré la petite erreur de cuisson de l'œuf, la justesse des assaisonnements et le jeu de textures ont donnée une entrée savoureuse et équilibrée, a la fois rustique et fine.

PLAT: La poitrine de cochon confite et croustillante était tout simplement irréprochable, cuisson maitrisée, peau craquante, chair moelleuse et gouteuse. Elle était servie avec une polenta crémeuse, des légumes de saison et une note ludique de popcorn qui apportaient un croustillant inattendu et amusant. un plat abouti, réjouissant, où terroir et créativité se rencontrent

DESSERT: La surprise venait de la polenta sucrée, réhaussée de pop corn caramélisés pour la texture, de points de ganache caramel et d'une quenelle glacée. L'ensemble offrait une sucrosité parfaite, une construction intelligente et un plaisir franc et immédiat. Un dessert signature qui marque les esprits..

SERVICE ET CADRE: Le service est attentif et chaleureux avec une équipe jeune et dynamique. La terrasse, sous une grande tonnelle en bord de route, peut sembler légèrement désuète au premier regard, mais elle offre un cadre agréable et convivial, propice à un moment simple

VERDICT: Le jeu de Quilles propose une cuisine très aboutie, équilibrée, créative, avec un rapport qualité/prix rare... Le chef, fort de son expérience auprès de Pascal Bardet, s'émancipe et commence à dépasser le maître, imposant un style bistro maitrisé à la perfection et original. On peut y aller les yeux fermés.... Un vrai voyage...

If you don’t love it, you don’t get it. Fat, salt, heat, sweet, green things, meaty things, finned and feathered things. It doesn’t matter what’s on the menu…it all comes out of the kitchen smelling deliciously and reflecting beautifully the passion of the chef and the dedication of the staff. Not forgetting the wine list; which is always modern, exciting and mostly natural. Outside is lovely in fine weather but don’t be disappointed with an inside table. Same magic, different wand. Still worth an annual pilgrimage (or more) from far corners of France after all...
