I generally don't do poor reviews but I feel that I have to mention the visit to the restaurant in this hotel. We could have eaten for a second night in our hotel restaurant which was excellent and friendly but chose to go for a walk and eat somewhere new. We stop in Tarascon sur Ariege every year and normally stay a couple of nights but won't consider this place in the future. |Calling the waiter a racist would be rude but as soon as he discovered we spoke very little French and basically only English the friendly welcome stopped! Had he had the decency to delve a little deeper he would have discovered that we are from the auld alliance. |The salad starter was good and we admired the presentation of the food around us with towers of potatoes and beautifully presented vegetables. Then we made the fatal mistake of ordering a side of fries to go with our duck with orange sauce. What did we get dumped in front of us? Yes you got it Duck and Chips. Every body else in the near vicinity were getting beautifully presented dinners and we paid €20 each for duck and chips. We didn't feel like ordering a sweet from a waiter who was having a great time with all the other diners and completely ignoring us. Why did I leave a tip? Because I was brought up properly and have manners. I won't be back to insulted again. A shame because the duck...

Great location in historic Tarascon town centre, friendly staff, excellent restaurant - the best food I had in two weeks in France. Downsides: it's an older building so the upper rooms, while modernised and comfortable, are reached by convoluted staircases - there's no ventilation other than the small window, so expect hot rooms on a hot day, and if your room overlooks the dining area out front there will be noise...
