L'Auberge du Bois — Restaurant in Forcalquier

I had high expectations before coming to this place as it was recommended by a friend. However, we were quite disappointed with the quality and uninspired menu considering the wide variety of fresh produce in the region.

I had the duck leg, which was quite dry and smothered in too sweet jam-like sauce which overpowered everything. The egg souffle (?) that came with it didn't quite match the dish (each dish had the same souffle).

The place itself looks charming and service was friendly. However, it did not help that there were a lot of flies (which we had to constantly wave away) and mosquitos (second spray of anti...

If you appreciate fine cuisine or quality stay away from this place. The starter of the aubergine mousse was edible but nothing more, the steak was uncooked despite having been returned to the kitchen, the chocolate fondue had a melting "heart " but was cold and looked miserable on the plate.. It was a waste of money...

Perfect restaurant. Good friendly service with an English speaking waiter which helped my poor French. Couldn't fault any of the courses. Interesting and tasty starters, perfectly cooked steak and deserts to die for . Going back this Sunday for a revisit with a relative visiting...Just as good on...
