We were en route to skiing just before Christmas 2013 and could not find a reasonable hotel near Albertiville so looked up on the Logis de France website and found the Hotel Les Alpes in Allevard, slightly off the track to Albertville but in reality not a significant detour. The hotel has been recently taken over by a lovely young couple who are putting all their efforts into upgrading the rather tired decor. Our room was more than adequate with a nice en suite bathroom and a child's room attached. The beds were comfortable and the linen of a good quality. However, the outstanding feature of our stay was the food. The restaurant deserves its Logis chimney pots (their mark of quality). The meal was delicious and so was breakfast. We were beautifully looked after and their kindness extended to sending me back a top I had left behind. The cost was €95 for the room, two meals and two breakfasts, which we thought was fantastic value for money. The only downside was that the hotel does not have a car park, we were offered a garage for €8 but sadly our car would not fit in the space so we left it on the street with no problems. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone - set aside preconditioned ideas about decor, which I am sure will change over the next year and you will have...

Read moreThis is an older style hotel, being restored by a very pleasant and welcoming young couple. Do ignore the staircase and the few areas still in need of renovation and concentrate on the lovely and tasteful decorations especially in the dining room and bedrooms. Ours was very spacious with two armchairs, two chairs and a desk. The slatted-base beds are comfortable with high quality bed linen, although I fear the duvets might be too heavy and hot in summer. Insulation is not the best, but we were on the whole lucky with our neighbours. The shower room has some new fittings and the water tends to run somewhat hot and cold; some of the tiling could be replaced, but Rome was not built in a day! Fast and efficient wifi, very pleasant staff. The hotel is very close to centre, and parking could be a problem; dropping off cases has to be slightly "illegal" and quick. Also be prepared to take luggage up to first or second floor as there are unfortunately no lifts. Do take half-board as the owner is a talented chef; freshly prepared delicious and refined food, delightfully presented, and all this for a very fair price. Allevard is an unspoilt and unpretentious spa — enjoy it for its simplicity and the numerous waymarked walks...
