Milin Ruz — Restaurant in Guingamp

Perhaps the first thing to say about this small restaurant is that it isn't in Plelauff (despite the postal address) but in Gouarec, just over the bridge! So, don't be fooled...

We went there for our first indoor meal since COVID - it was great. My wife and her friend are 'normal' eaters, and I'm a veggie - which can be tricky in France - but we all had excellent meals. They had a trout gravlax starter - mine was asparagus with a poached egg... all had subtle and interesting sauces with them - a feature of the meal as a whole.

For mains, my wife had the fish dish (cod), our friend a steak and I had a chopped up buckwheat crêpe with cheese - that sounds ordinary, but again the great thing was everything was expertly cooked plus the sauces and side vegetables were delicious - a leek dish, cabbage, potatoes, bulgur wheat...

For a sweet course, two of us had the soft chocolate brownie (it wasn't called that) - again excellent - and one had the caramel panna cotta - the only dish which was not quite up to the standard of the rest, being a little heavier than what you'd get in an Italian place.

The wine list was fascinating - not the usual card at all, but all sorts of organic non-sulphite wines. Both the red and white were delicious wines I'd never had before. We took what was left in the bottles with us, as is the custom in this resto. No wastage!

Service was pleasant and helpful, and as it wasn't a busy lunchtime the chef popped out from time to time to ask our opinions of the dishes. Clearly, a very passionate guy. It is a very relaxed place - not a suit-and tie job.

The three course meals for three plus two bottles of lovely wine came to around 150 euro. Well worth it for foodies, and you can eat for less if you stick to water or a glass of wine each, or skip a course!

Edit: the owner has 'corrected' me to say that the restaurant is in Plelauff, and not in Gouarec as I claimed. Well, technically he's right - the postal address is Plelauff - but it is still much nearer to the centre of the village of Gouarec (just across the bridge) than it is to the centre of the village of Plelauff - which is 2-3 miles away! Depends on how you look at it, I suppose. I would guess that the parish is...

Nous sommes venu ce Vendredi 14 Juillet à midi, et nous avons mangé en terrasse (il faisait encore beau temps au moment de votre venue...). Globalement, nous avons été agréablement surpris par le service. Je vais mettre plus de détails dessus ci-dessous, en espérant que cela pourra vous être d'une aide précieuse :

Nous avons été prévenus que les personnes travaillant ici viennent de s'y installer. Je présenterai donc de l'indulgence dans mes propos.

Dans l'ensemble de ce que nous avons vu et goûté, les photos sont très fidèles quant à la qualité des plats. Nous l'avons ressenti comme un restaurant semi-gastronomique. Ceci avait probablement un impact sur le peu de choix de plats proposé. Cependant, quasiment tous les choix représentent une bonne originalité. Cela cause un parti pris : un certain manque de soulignement de la gastronomie régionale bretonne (une région conservatrice de sa culture), contre un voyage proposé vers d'autres horizons. On voit l'objectif visé, bien entendu, mais cela représentera peut-être au long terme un problème. On l'espère pas mais on a bien apprécié le voyage dans tous les cas ! Exemple : le Tataki au boeuf a été apprécié avec unanimité !

J'ai dit "quasiment" lorsque je parlais d'originalité, précédemment. Je faisais ici référence à la pizza fromage à 15€ que j'ai personnellement pris. Elle m'a malheureusement paru bien trop chère par rapport à ce qui m'a été présenté. La pâte est trop fine et un peu trop cuite vers l'extérieur, bien qu'elle avait un assez grand diamètre. Un plat tel que celui-ci déteint sur la bien meilleure qualité des autres. On reconnaît le talent du chef, mais on ne comprend pas ce choix-ci en même temps, surtout en liant ça avec l'intention de fraîcheur et d'originalité du restaurant ...

En revanche, absolument rien à redire pour les desserts, de vraies tueries !

Un point que j'aimerais souligner, les serveurs nous ont servi les boissons pour l'apéritif et les boissons pour manger notre plat en même temps ! (Tout était sur un plateau)

Musique agréable car elle passe pour beaucoup de monde et apportent une convivialité certaine (et ce, même si c'est relativement subjectif)

Une belle décoration, intérieure et extérieure, à mon humble avis.

Les serveurs s'amélioreront à tous les coups avec le temps et l'expérience, notamment dans l'assurance de leur connaissance des plats. Cependant, le service était rapide, en plus d'un chef soucieux du retour de ses clients. Il est venu nous voir pour demander comment ça allait. Très drôle aussi !

Nous sommes navré d'être venu lorsque le temps de pluie ne valorisait pas le moment. J'espère que vous pourrez nous excuser d'avoir demandé des frites, on vient du nord donc on s'est rattaché comme on pouvait à nos origines ! Dans tous les cas, on pense refaire un tour si jamais on a l'occasion de repasser dans la région ! Et surtout, bon courage à...

Absolut unfreundlich. Meine Familie und ich wurden nicht bedient mit der Begründung, dass das Restaurant ausgebucht sei, dabei war das halbe Restaurant leer und um 20:30 Uhr wären sicher nicht mehr viele Leute gekommen. Ich werde das Gefühl nicht los, dass man uns nicht als ausländische Gäste im Dorf haben möchte. Kein einziges Restaurant wollte uns bedienen. So mussten wir hungrig zur Unterkunft zurückkehren. Wirklich schade und nicht gut für den Ruf des Ortes. Merci beaucoup Mittlerweile hat sich der Inhaber gemeldet und ich weise die Behauptung zurück, unfreundlich gewesen zu sein. Ich bin erst verärgert gewesen, nachdem man mir in diesem Dorf zum wiederholten male nichts anbieten wollte und meine Familie hungrig nach Hause musste. Übrigens ist es unmöglich zu reservieren, wenn man unterwegs ist (wir kamen von Lorient) und spontan ein Restaurant sucht, weil vor allem die Kinder Hunger haben. Alle Restaurants waren teilweise halb leer. In jedem Land der Erde kümmert sich das Restaurant um das Wohlbefinden seiner Gäste und findet immer eine Lösung, sei es am Katzentisch.
