Le Quai des Pirates is a locally sourced fresh sea food (except the prawns) counter and restaurant. Pleasantly located approximately 20 metres from the port. Martigues is known as the La Provençale Venise (Provincial Venice) set within a sheltered picturesque Mediterranean cove. Le Plateau Degustation (seafood platter) is a selection is raw mussels, raw oysters, cooked sea snails and prawns with a selection of mayonnaise sauces. Presented in a slightly corny ship styled platter filled with crushed ice to keep the food chilled. Alternatively, the less substantial La Salade Poulpe (Squid salad) may be more preferable if you want a smaller meal. Whilst the serving of squid is small it is dressed in a delicate white sauce accompanied by a small salad with a typical provincial vinaigrette.

Here’s a clear focus on seafood, which is very fresh and very tasty in this restaurant. Friendly staff. There’s no Menu card in English or other language available, but one guy there speaks very well English and German. He has also time to explain things, especially if you don’t have an idea how to eat some special dishes. For kids is also a menu available and also special chairs, which we used too. To sit outside is not very good, you will be sitting next to the parking area and having no view to the sea. There are a lot of mosquitoes, also inside of the restaurant. And this is sad, that nobody takes measures which would be no big deal.

A simple establishment specialising in seafood. I went for the local Oysters, followed by 'Supions (Cuttle Fish) of the house'. I have often eaten these prepared in several different ways, but this was the most tasty preparation so far! They were super tender and served in a sublime sauce. Service was friendly and with humour, price and quality excellent. I look forward to going back!

The setting is very inviting, staff very friendly and helpful, well spoken English, wine and beer delicious, but that is where it ended for me. Ordered a couple of starters, the bread was industrial and made from frozen, the salad was nothing more than some cut up lettuce with some drops of an overpowering dressing, a couple of small tomato squares, I would expect a lot more effort from a restaurant with that price range. The seafood may be nice, didnÂŽt even try it, judging from the poor quality and small size of the starters, where the squid also appeared to made from frozen, I was not at all inspired to order anything else nor return. I would characterize it more as a nice tourist trap than a true local cuisine experience. There are a lot better local restaurants with lower prices not too far away, the restaurant decoration is much more attractive than the plates...
