We were staying at the Hotel Banniere and their restaurant was not open the night we stayed so they made us reservations at this restaurant. So glad they did. Our party of 8 was seated in a private room upstairs and the vaulted ceiling totally set the atmosphere. While we initially had some difficulty getting the correct number of orders placed - due mostly in part to my party and not the server. Terrible service. My husband and I wanted to have some dinner here. Since we were a bit early we planned on first having some drinks and later order some food. We wanted to sit on the terrace, as there was enough space still and there were a couple of people having drinks as well. The waiter denied us the terrace, and just couldn’t explain why we were only allowed inside instead of the terrace, where other people were having drinks.. Lovely typical French bistro in the beautiful old centre of Laon. We sat outside on a very mild April evening - the interior was fully booked. The staff were friendly and attentive and spoke good English (better than my French). The food was very reasonably priced and excellent quality. We enjoyed some very garlicky snails and smoked salmon to start, then steak (v good) and veal sweetbreads to follow. Decent bottle of red wine completed the picture. I would definitely recommend...
