L' Ardenave — Restaurant in Largentière

The most frustrating and disappointing restaurant experience ever. I will never come back to this inept place.

Whilst checking out the menu my partner and I noticed that most of the 'Plats' or main dishes came with butternut squash - apart from the Cote de boeuf, which came with fries. I was going to order the lamb and my partner the pork chop. When the waitress came to take our order we politely asked if the chef could swap the butternut squash for fries as we both really didn't want butternut squash (a simple and pain free request at any other restaurant).

We were told by the waitress that it wouldn't be possible to change the butternut squash for fries. She then told us that all the customers have been asking the same request, but the chef firmly said no. I was now starting to feel like we were in some weird episode of The Twilight Zone. We politely asked her if she could go and ask the chef as we thought it wasn't much of a big deal to swap butternut squash for fries - this is France after all.

A different waitress came back and said she was sorry but the chef will not do this. We asked why not? the chef said he was too busy to peel and cut potatoes to make fries.

Well, by this point my partner and I really couldn't believe what was happening and what we were being told. Being told from the chef that the only reason fries are not available - except if you have the expensive cote de boeuf - is that he doesn't have time to wash, peel and cut a potato to make the most basic of French side dishes - UNBELIEVABLE!

The chef and management of this establishment must be trying to run the restaurant into the ground. If all your customers are asking to swap sweet potatoes for fries, why on earth can't you do this? not having the time to prepare fries is a poor excuse.

We ended up ordering three cold starters to share. By that point I'd lost my appetite. We did complain to the head waiter whilst paying and the chef even came out to laugh at us.

This establishment has no respect for it's customers and is run by a bunch of Muppets - avoid...

Plus: A very nice location on the banks of the river, fresh and delicious food, friendly and attentive service. Just some minor things, I would give it 4 to 5 points. Minus: There are still rules in place to prevent Corona infections, one of them is that restaurant staff wears masks at all times and guests wear masks when not at their table. From the latter, only about 50% complied. This is not the fault of the restaurant except they might have reminded them in a friendly fashion. However, the staff themselves were terrible with masks. Except for one lady out of an estimated 6 or 7, their masks covered only the mouth, or the chin, or their elbows, or was dangling from a wrist. They could have worn it on their heads as little hats, would have had the same effect. Negligence like this tells me as a guest that they don't care about their own and their guests well-being. This is disgusting, especially when you see all other restaurants seem to be able to do it correctly. So in...

Tres beau cadre au bord de" la Baume" qui sert de lieu de baignade quand il y a assez d'eau , ça c'est pour le décor . Sinon évitez ce lieu de restauration comme la peste

Grand attrape touriste , apparemment cette etablissement cherche plus a faire du profit que de la qualité et du tres bon service. Meme si en periode tout le monde sait que c'est un peu plus cher là c'est une veritable arnaque . Ne sert plus de plats conventionnels apres 13h00 , vous propose une planche de charcuterie , plateau de 2 fromages , gauffres , ou bien sur glaces . La planche de charcuterie , caillette terrine industrielle , 6 tranches de chorizo bon marché , 2 moitié tranches de jambon cru 1er prix , une 10 aines de tranche de saucissons et apparemment doivent avoir un surplus de cornichons car vous trouverez votre charcuterie dessous , et pour ceux qui aiment faire de petites tartines beurrée faudra vite les préparer car le beurre posé a même l'ardoise sous le soleil de plomb devient vite une cuillere d'huile. la salade qu'on vous propose avec fait la taille d'une grosse tasse a café , vinaigrette industrielle mais 3.90 Euros facturée pour ce prix là nous pensions avoir le maraicher avec . Le fromage juste une tranche de bleu des causses , un crotin pour le prix on pensait avoir au moins du produit local et de bonne saveur . Heureusement que patron est aussi incompetent qu'il le parait car quand on commande cela pour 2 personnes on pense avoir chacun son plat , là on a dû ce partager l'ardoise et heureusement 40 euros pour une personne ça pique un peu .Quand on est pret a payer une belle note on s'attend a avoir de la qualité .Nous avons eu la chance d'attendre 30mn avant de voir venir un serveur pour nous donner la carte et 30mn pour voir cette même personne pour prendre notre commande et avons pu voir défiler les plats et tous les avis sur pizza faudrait les revoir ce ne sont que des pizzas traditionnelles rien de bien exceptionnelles , les plats bien présentés mais une cuisse de canard apparemment juvenile , 2 morceau de carotte .... Ah et pour le prix de la carte et la qualité des produits et l'efficacité des employés on espere avoir plus que juste 1 toilette . Mais bon on ne peut pas tout ce mettre dans la poche et pouvoir investir en même temps . Endroit fortement déconseillé sauf si vous en avez...
