I'm not sure if the night we went was just a fluke or if there are some looming kitchen/management issues to address, but we had a very poor experience here.

My husband and I ordered the 5 course menu here and waited in disbelief as it took 1 hour and 40 minutes for our first dish to arrive. We asked the server what was going on and she said a table was being "difficult" and this distraction lead to the starters going wrong, and that it would just be 6-8 minutes. This time came and went and we wound up waiting another 30 minutes. This seemed to affect most of the restaurant, who along with us sat hungry and impatient for nearly 2 hours.

I do get that mistakes happen, but this is simply not acceptable for a 1 star Michelin restaurant, where service should be as good as the food. They comped the bottle of wine we ordered and the food was good, but the negative experience of having to waste 3 hours of the last night of our holiday here and ruining our plans for the rest of the night overshadowed all else.

Besides this, I will say that the photos of the restaurant are quite deceiving. It looks like you have floor to ceiling windows overlooking the river, but only 2 tables have this nice view. We were in the area of the restaurant that looks like it was once a terrace. Its windows did partly look over the river, but they were not floor to ceiling, so we could not even see the river from our table. What we did see was the close road and bridge with cars whizzing past - not a pretty nor romantic sight, especially after dark with headlights in your eyes. Speaking of the light, they are unpleasantly bright and caused glare on the windows. The decor was dated and there was no music or atmosphere.

If you do go, I hope you have better luck than us, and ask for a table near the...

Great setting, Honestly, service was fine...but was the most disappointing part as I came with wife and children and was made to feel less welcome, which was a shame (especially since they ordered a la carte as well). They just need to stop taking themselves so seriously!!

Excellent value for a Michelin star, I get that, as this is not the first time to have eaten in Michelin star restaurants, and I have paid a lot more for the privilege

Would I go again? Probably not, more because of service than food and ultimately this should be a celebration, we should enjoy it, and be made to feel special.

All in all, over €300 spent for a family meal should have made us feel special...but it did not feel like the experience it should have

P. S. Having read other reviews have now adjusted to 3 star to hopefully help others understand the disappointment in the service; ultimately a Michelin star is based on service as much as food, and this...

Went here for lunch with a friend and her two daughters (7 & 10). We read the reviews before we left and were a little concerned about one of the reviews re children and the menu. We arrived 15 minutes early (before they were open) and were happily greeted by the hostess (who I believe was perhaps the owner). We were offered to take our seats immediately if we wanted to...we did. They offered 2 meal choices for the girls.. they took the chicken which they absolutely loved....and I did too as it was a lot for them to eat. I had the shrimp and ravioli starter with the pork chop main. Both of these were very tasty. Unfortunately I did not have room for dessert. The restaurant has a beautiful view overlooking the Dordogne River. I’m glad I did not listen to the negative reviews as I really enjoyed my meal and the setting...

Saint-Jean-de-Blaignac is a village of 450 souls, yet here you find one of Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s finest tables. L’Auberge Saint-Jean holds its Michelin star not in spite of its rural setting but because of it: terroir flows through every plate and every view of the Dordogne from the dining room. We chose Eaux et Berges: amuses of seafood, croquette, pissaladière and salmon tartare; asparagus with lardo and wild garlic; John Dory with artichokes, cockles and bonito; a chariot of cheeses; strawberries reimagined as art; and raspberry mignardises. The sommelier’s pairings were revelations of the sublime. Finesse without pretension, L’Auberge's approach is rooted in the provenance of place.

Auoberge Saint Jean should never lack for clientele, given their idyllic location alongside a peaceful river, delightful rooms, and superb food. Everything is beautiful, including the hostess. Each plate presentation is a piece of art. The staff was perfect, and amenable for our late lunch. The paired wines were a excellent match. It is a must visit sensation. Go there.
