Hôtel Restaurant LE BON DUC — Restaurant in Libourne

We specifically asked for a room where we could open the window to let fresh air in. Imagine our shock after checking in to discover our only window faced a bar where people smoked and the smoke was so heavy our room was filled instantly. The hallway had fresh air, so we opened our door to try and clear the air. That was futile so we left the premises for awhile to await the dinner hour, because the terrace was tacky [see photos of the buildings surrounding the terrace]. Upon returning, the hallway was also filled with smoke and the noise from the highway reached our room in the back of the hotel. We cancelled dinner and breakfast reservations and told the young staffer the reasons why. We stayed at this hotel for two nights and were pleased with the accommodation . We were rather doubtful after reading the reviews but our worries were unfounded. The rooms were quite compact but very clean ,with a good shower in the en suite . It was all perfectly adequate for our needs. The dinner in the restaurant was delicious with a very good choice on the fixed price menus. We were served extremely well by the staff and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was lovely with fresh fruit , croissants ,ham , cheese ,eggs and yogurt .
