We were on a day trip through the area and were looking for a specific castle near Chalus when we happened upon this establishment in Chalus, right next to the town fountain. We stopped to have a cup of coffee and ended up staying for several hours listening to the advice and stories from the owner and his friends. He is a retired Englishman and moved to Chalus to be near all the historical sites connected with Richard the Lionhearted. We did not spend the night so I can not speak about the hotel side but the restaurant and bar service was quite pleasing and informative. Had the set Easter meal on Saturday. Carrot and coriander soup Half roast chicken, green beans, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and gravy Apple pie and vanilla ice cream coffee Grand total €17 !!!! I have to say this represented exceptional value for money and the roast was sublime. I had to take the thigh home to save room for dessert. I've been enjoying Dave's culinary skills since 2015 and can honestly say I've NEVER had a bad meal. Kids had cheese burger and veggie burger both with chips.
