La Base — Restaurant in Lorient

This place is CRAZY good. We were looking for somewhere to eat around 9:30 PM, thinking it was hopeless to even try, and this wonderful restaurant appeared as a mirage in front of our tearful eyes. There was live music when we arrived. The location is breathing and the view of the harbor really elevates the atmosphere to a whole other level. Since we didn't have a reservation we had to wait a few minutes to sit, but the owner was kind and understanding and told us she would come looking for us when the moment would come. The waiter who took our ordinations didn't even have to write anything down, our food came to the table just a few minutes later exactly as we asked it. The dishes are astounding: I had a Dorade entire and was incredibly satisfied with my choice. I also had a taste of the Jarret de cochon and it was also incredibly good. We had a wonderful time here and will definitely come back if the occasion...

This is a food factory but an utterly professional and a really good one. Beginning August we arrived by 13:00 and there was a waiting list (check with the main waiter, she’ll note down a first name and you can get a drink at the bar while waiting, 10 to 15 minutes for us). Food was really good for such a huge and busy place and we hardly had to wait for it. They also have a pretty wide choice. The main things are: the really nice setting close to the harbour, and most of all the professionalism and friendliness of the waiters despite them being extremely busy to the point of having to almost run. Very bad experience. Strongly advising to go somewhere else!!!

We came in the early morning and staff was very unfriendly, we didn’t feel welcomed at all. Ordered 2 cappuccinos and 1 croissant. The croissant was delicious but coffee undrinkable. We sent them back and ordered tea instead. When bill was presented we still had to pay for the coffees, which we did. Not an apology, not a thank you, not a goodbye.
