Another fabulous find — apparently considered one of the best couscous places in greater Lyon. Service really kind, food quality superb. A very enjoyable experience.

When we first arrived the restaurant was pretty much empty as you can see in one of the photos. Well, that didn’t last long! As our meal was arriving, the place was filling up fast and soon all the tables were occupied.

If you are unfamiliar with a traditional couscous, check out the photo taken at Bougaci. You lay down a bed of “semoule” (semolina pasta in fine grains) on which you add a vegetable stew made with lamb & chicken, zucchini, carrots and turnips. The stew is seasoned by a unique marriage of fresh ginger and saffron — they combine to make a most incredible flavor. Then you crown the dish with your choice of meats… lamb brochettes, kefta meatballs, chicken, merguez sausages, etc. Condiments include chickpeas, raisins, or a compote of caramelized onions. Don’t forget the harissa. It’s a chili/garlic paste that you can stir into a ladle of the bouillon to add an additional kick to your meal. Their wine list included a red from the Mascara province so… yes!

I can’t visit France without going at least once to a really good couscous restaurant. Chez...

A very surprising place...not so easy to reach, it's not so visible, but the staff it's very helpful and always smiling. We started with an aperif, a Tomato (strong taste of anise). A delicious dish with tuna and potatoes, followed by a couscous with 3 kind of meat (chicken, beef and sausage) and soup with vegetables. We weren't able to finish...very large quantity. The tea with mint was very tasting and digestive even if there was maybe too more sugar. Very good but a little bit hard to digest desert. The wine, a red one, was not fantastic. And at the end...surprise: a belly dancer!! Very exciting...
