My first time eating Indian food in Lyon and I have never been so disappointed. I did not expect 5 stars from a small local restaurant but it was not even satisfactory. Curry is inexpensive to prepare and yet the container was only 1/3 full. The grilled chicken tikka lacked flavour & once again the portion sizes (3 pieces) was not generous. The naan was okay but the cheese used was average. Perhaps a raclette type of cheese would be better? Also, would have liked a garlic butter naan option (very popular in India). There is also a lack of overall spice in the dishes - in a place as diverse as Charpennes I would expect a little more flavour! We paid âŹ37 for an appetizer, one main and two naan! So overpriced! It is not value for money.
Coming from New Zealand, the Indian diaspora there is able to deliver taste of home. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Le Shimla. Some of the food items seemed a tad bit adapted to the local taste because they were less spicy than expected. But things like qeema and palak paneer were really good and felt like home. We were done eating by 8:30 but didn't realize that we were there for an extra two hours and the management was kind enough to refill our water all this time, without pressuring us into paying the bill or leaving.
