"The French copy no one, and no one copys the French" sums up this attempt at authentic Mexican.
It's not Mexican food, it's aiming to be Tex-Mex adapted for French palates ("spicy" is barely hotter than a jalapeño).
At least the service is great! Friendly and fast.
If you've lived in North America, you'll be disappointed. Obviously, not having native Hispanics cook Hispanic food will lead to an inferior product!
The margaritas are.. unique. (to put it mildly)and expensive (10-12€).
They are very strong (which should be a good thing!) but it just makes you taste the cheap tequila even more!
I ordered 2, on the rocks and the other was frozen. Both were disappointing flavor-wise but got me buzzin! The frozen texture was especially weird, it was light thicker crushed ice, very hard to describe and just not smooth at all.
We started off with some guacamole and the squid, portions are fine but again, not bad but just kind of bizarre.
Instead of tortilla chips, they serve this fried phillo/filo dough pancake slicked into strips. We were truly puzzled.
Guacamole was incredibly smooth with lots of raw onion (I've had worse) but expensive.
Next, forgettable fish tacos (not bad, not good) and the burrito. Oh the burrito.
I admire the French and their desire to be fashionable at all times but serving a burrito under a thick layer of refried beans and cheese is not the way to go! You couldn't see the actual tortilla under whatever was melted on top (definitely not Monterey or pepperjack, probably some cheddar).
That goes inside the tortilla, not on top of it.
Other tables were using forks and knives for everything, including nachos!!
It's tragic when the Chipotle that's opening up near Part Dieux is probably going to be the only spot where someone can order a freaking burrito.
This place must appeal to the average young hipster clientèle but to anyone who knows the real deal: it's very different.
Random but the tables are TINY! Like the size of a Monopoly board game or 4 ipads layed out...
Read moreI would never come here again or any Mexican restaurant in france, after eating the food I’ve been sick for two days,
I observed the kitchen while all our dishes were being cooked out of curiosity since I used to work in one a few years ago the kitchen looked pretty filthy to be honest there was a leak on the floor probably from the fridge and lettuce, cheese and what ever else scattered around the place. What struck me is the fact they didn’t clear the prep table since it had all sorts of different ingredients that flung onto it never cleaned after a about 10/15 orders and 1 hour of watching.
When it came to the food it was late in the evening so I’m sure they were in a rush to finish up the orders but the way they threw everything onto the plate with the energy of decrepit person - the actual food tasted pretty bland there was no evident spice and it was horribly greasy with little flavour - france is nutorious for shit Mexican so it didn’t surprise me & I should’ve known better than to trust reviews on Google. Last thing that struck me but not really a surprise in france the price of the food was ridiculous for a burrito it was 16€ I get a great Burrito in a more expensive European city for 11€ and it actually tastes like a burrito. This one tasted like melted cheese with grease.
Now I don’t want to be too unfair Service was okay, Chefs looked well trained and staff did their best. It’s more the fact I got sick afterwards - which I believe is due to contamination which can easily happen in an unclean kitchen, lastly the food -which I can’t blame it on the restaurant since that’s the crappy standard of French Mexican food - it’s bland and boring and...
Read moreWhile the complimentary water and attentive service were appreciated, the overall dining experience at Two Amigos fell short of expectations in terms of food quality. Despite the visually appealing presentation, the flavors did not live up to the promise.
The rice, in particular, lacked seasoning and authenticity, resembling a generic side rather than a traditional Mexican accompaniment. The dishes, though attractively plated, offered a rather average taste profile that did not justify the price point.
Two Amigos has potential, especially given its friendly staff and inviting atmosphere, but the culinary execution needs refinement to match the standards of genuine...
