We arrived at Lauz'oustal after a 6 hour drive and we were due to drive for another 6 hours the following night. We were greeted by our friendly host who showed us to our lovely room, with a mezzanine for the children, breakfast was to be served in the room next door. A table had been reseraved in the restaurant beneath and the view from our balcony across the countryside was superb. We were told that a band would be playing which added at that stage to the magic of the evening all was good. The meal was excellent, in fact my husbands steak was one of the best he had eaten during the holiday. At around 9 ish we retired to bed knowing we had a long journey ahead. Unfortunately this is when it all went very wrong. The music lovely as it was now felt as though it was in our room with us, we couldn't shut the windows as it was close to 40 degrees in the room with no a/c or fan. ( In retrospect we should have asked for a fan as this would have made a little difference) The children couldn't now sleep on the mezzanine as it was far too hot so they slept on the floor, the music continued until 12.30 and then they had to pack away, at last we could try to sleep, but then started the wind which whipped up the decorative sails above the restaurant outside our room and boy what a noise. We did get a little sleep eventually. Breakfast was bread and croissants at a shared table which was fine. The host did say that the temperature was uncommonly hot but even so it was a night to remember, sadly for the wrong reasons. ||The accommodation was clean and fresh and the bathrooms are beautiful, in the winter with the shutters to keep out the light and an appropriate temperature this would be the place to stay but without A/C in the summer heat it was very difficult and very uncomfortable especially if you need a decent night's sleep before...
Read moreWe stopped here for lunch on our cycle ride (warning cyclists - a short but very steep climb up from the main road!) and were greeted warmly by the hostess. We sat outside on the sunny terrace. The restaurant inside was buzzing and clearly very popular with locals. The service was excellent, the food simple, delicious and well prepared and the value for money superb. We would happily come here again, in fact I may have to plan another cycle route to make this the perfect lunch stop! I think they’re open all year round for lunch on Monday to Friday, except their annual holidays. A real...
