Well, the setting is lovely and the menu interesting, but that’s the best I can say about Teo Jasmin in Beaugency. I asked politely (in French) if they had a table for two and the proprietor waved his hand dismissively at me and said in English maybe outside if I could find one. My wife and I then sat at a dirty table which a server said she would come and clean. This didn’t happen for 15 minutes. We then waited a further 25 minutes before anyone even asked us if we wanted a drink. I’m aware that places can be busy at the height of tourist season. But a smile, an apology for the wait, and a glass of water go a long way. Nothing like that here. Eventually, after calling someone over, we ordered drinks and our dinner. We waited. And waited. And waited. Then asked if we might have our drinks. An hour in the restaurant and not so much as a sip of water. “They are coming,” the server barked over his shoulder at us. Our drinks had obviously been forgotten. He brought them over to us, forgetting the carafe of water which we had also asked for. Our food then arrived. My wife’s steak was cooked rare, as requested, but had no seasoning or sauce. It was almost tasteless. Her green salad consisted of 4 dry salad leaves, no dressing. Her fries were a third soggy, a third hard and crisp from the bottom of the frier basket, and a third ok. My vegetarian salad with falafel was reasonable, but a tiny portion for the same price as the steak. Really it was the size of a starter, maybe 4 pieces of falafel. Now we reach the completely unforgivable part of the evening. I went inside to pay, waiting politely for my turn behind one other customer. The proprietor, whilst serving the other customer, waved a ticket above the customer’s head at me and expected me to tap my card to pay without so much as a word in my direction. I looked at him, aghast. “Well, table 1?” he snapped. I paid. I actually wish I hadn’t. I then told him that he was rude, arrogant, and that we had received the worst service in his restaurant that I have ever had anywhere in France, which is true. He shrugged and said that they were very busy. Well, I saw other tables being served more quickly than us. I watched other servers chatting with the customers and being polite. I saw the proprietor chatting nicely with the customer in front of me. So, this wasn’t that they were busy. For some reason he had decided that we were not worthy of his attention or service. I felt belittled and insulted. I do not recommend this place. Maybe they serve their friends appropriately but not anyone else. I’m not sure....
Read moreTerrible service. Slow and ignored us in the restaurant while they focused on the terrace outside. We had to take wine glasses off the table next to us as they didn't bother to give us any. They didn't clear the table of empty aperitif glasses or water bottles... Cafe gourmand ordered and never arrived even when asked a second time... everyone else has finished dessert.... Expensive and tiny portions. Salmon ordered... 3 tiny slivers for €16 Worst French restaurant experienced. High prices but they cannot bring you the bill. You have to queue like you are in...
