L'ESCALE — Restaurant in Périgueux

We stayed there two weeks ago en route to Spain and I have very good impressions from there. Firstly I booked from booking com iPhone app while my partner was driving and when we arrived at about midnight, the owner was already on his feet in his bathrobe ready to give us the key and ask if we wanted breakfast. In the end we didn't, but in this short interaction, a very kind service, I thought. The room was clean, ergonomic, with new furniture and appliances, comfortable large double bed, bathroom was spacious and just the shower was of this open type, which meant most of the bathroom floor was wet after. What I liked about it, is that the hotel is only ground floor and the entrances to the rooms are straight from outside, so if you forget something from the car, it is literally a hop away. In summary I think, that what is most important for tired travellers, is there and in good quality, especially for the price (50 euro per night for two). Thumbs up.||(There is a rating on Tripadvisor which asks for room service and fitness centre, I had to choose an option to complete the review, but obviously there is neither as it is not this...

Petit resto en famille pour les vacances nous avons bien vite déchanté, d'abord le pain tout simplement dur (mon fils c'est même fait mal avec en le mangeant), ensuite arrive les assiettes menu enfant les frites étaient bonnes le steak haché paraissait bien cuit sauf qu'à peine coupé je vois qu'il est saignant je demande à ce qu'il soit bien cuit le serveur reprend l'assiette qui revient 30 secondes plus tard (donc forcément toujours pas cuit )accompagné de nos plats 3 salades (paysanne et périgourdine) la encore nous avons vite déchanté le fois gras mi cuit baignait sur une tartine de pain pleine de gras, les rillettes n'avaient aucun goût, le magret de canard j'en trouve du meilleur en supermarché et le jambon de pays infecte et lorsque que nous le signalons au serveur quand il reprend les assiettes il revient 1 minute après nous demandant ce que nous lui avions trouvé car il venait de goûter dans nos assiettes et n'avait rien trouvé de bizarre! (Mais bien sûr en plein covid on va goûter dans les assiettes des clients!) Pour ce qui est de la salade il y en avait très peu et l'assaisonnement n'avait aucun goût... bref 70€ à 4 pour ne rien manger et partir en courant...

We stayed at this hotel on arrival to Bordeaux and on our way to Sarlat. It is a convenient stop after a long trip from the USA. Before reaching the Dordogne valley we wanted to see Bourdelles and Brantome and the hotel helped up to take some rest and cut on the overall driving time.
