Well what a disappointmnet. I booked online and asked for a specific table as it was a Birthday celebration - the re-worked interior downstairs meant that it was not available. So we were seated upstairs and, although on first impressions it was very cosy - it was extremely cold. The restaurant appeared understaffed and although the 2 staff available were really friendly, the service for the main course and second round of drinks was slow. My husbands starter was lovely - grilled sardines - but the main courses were both really disappointing. The previous "small plates" concept seems to have disappeared to be replaced by a standard format but we didn't know this in advance because the website still lists the old menu. Opening hours are also out of date on the website.
The main courses were not up to the standard of the old menu - very greasy - served on slates which were stone cold (excuse the pun!) which meant that the food cooled quickly. No salad garnish, just deep fried stuff and weird fries.

Read moreMyself and 7 friends had the pleasure of visiting L'Escalier on 20/08. We had an incredible experience from the minute we booked the table. The owners were welcoming and explained the menu to us in detail. When we arrived we were welcomed by 2 excellent waiting staff who catered for everything without any delay. We all went for a separate dining options where we either enjoyed one main to ourselves or shared multiple plates. Everyone was blown away by the quality of the food and the service which came with it. The owners know how to host a great evening and enjoyed socializing with us over a glass of wine and digestive. Will definitely be returning on my next visit and will recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a great evening...
Read moreThis lovely eatery managed to fit us in after we had been diverted through the region due to a car crash on one of the larger roads. A chef from a pizzeria in a neighbouring village could not fit us in for lunch but kindly called the owner of L'Escalier. The owner was friendly and the waiting staff incredibly friendly. They spoke to us in a mixture of French and English. They offered a bespoke sharing tapas style starter for the children and then divided a lovely beef main course between them. We ordered the beef too and my wife the tuna steak. The food was delicious, the service fast and friendly. A lovely pit stop! Thank...
