We visited Montsegur on our cultural trip of France. If you have any interest in Cathar history, you have to visit Montsegur. The entire village is a heritage site and of course there is the famous Cathar castle, perched on the hill behind the village. This was one of the last Cathar strongholds, during the Albigensian Crusades.||A stay in this historical village is a must. We spent two fabulous nights with Annick and Serge at their lovely guesthouse. We stayed in the very spacious and homely self catering unit - Le Gite. It has an upstairs bedroom with downstairs lounge (cosy little Dover style fireplace), well equipped kitchen and bathroom. Breakfasts were included in the price - served on the patio outside, with stunning views over the village and of course the mountain with the castle right behind the village. L'Oustal is situated at the end of the village, close to the top - stunning views from this vantage point.||Most importantly - Annick is a very good cook and spends her days in the kitchen cooking very delicious suppers, offering many speciality dishes from the area. Please ask to have supper when you make your booking. Supper time was truely the highlight of our stay. All the guests and the hosts sit around a large table in the dining room with|its huge fireplace, giving you the opportunity to get to know the wonderfull people of France and to exchange stories with fellow travellers. Most of all to enjoy the superb hospitality offered by Serge and Annick. ||Highly recommended. Morgan and Mike van Vuuren from Camps Bay, Cape Town,...

Read moreThis is a small hotel at the edge of the village of Montsegur. ||It just looks like a big beautiful house, full with pieces of art the owners produce themselves. Madame starts talking to you like she knows you all her life. Before you land in your room, you get a full tour of the house. My brother and I got a room that was big enough to host another 3 people. There is a shared bathroom, but as the number of rooms compared to the number bathrooms is reasonable, there is never a queue. ||They serve no dinner but they show you a friendly couple that only does dinners in the village. So we had a wonderful evening with our dinner hosts and some other hikers.||Breakfast in the hotel is a feast. The proper real deal French breakfast. ||Especially when the weather is good, breakfast is served on the terrace with a view on the castle.||The owners were talking about selling the place as it was getting too much for them. I hope...
