I rarely give a really bad review to a restaurant because I’m aware that it affects people’s livelihoods. But, in the case of Au Coin de Feu I’m making an exception.

We made a lunch reservation for two people, at 1:30pm on the terrace. The woman who took the reservation couldn’t be bothered to make sure she had my name right, but she assured me that I had a reservation for two at 1:30pm on the terrace. To put this review in context—I’ve dined in hundreds of restaurants in France over the decades, and overwhelmingly I’ve been greeted courteously and often with real warmth. I’ve very rarely had a surly waiter or an unpleasant hostess.

My wife and I arrived just before 1:30. No tables were available. When a staffer finally came up to us we told her that we had reservations and gave her the details. It was clear that they take the reservation process as a joke. She didn’t even bother to look for our name, as it appears that they pretty much don’t bother with reservations. She also didn’t apologize, or point out the obvious and suggest that it wouldn’t be a long wait. A german couple were standing there trying to get an answer to a question they had about the menu. They were treated rudely, too, and left.

Then the owner (at least I think it was the owner) came out and got aggressive and unpleasant with us, as if it were our fault that they hadn’t reserved a table for us.

She finally suggested that we might want to take our first course inside and then move out to the terrace. I explained that we made a point of not dining inside because of COVID. With that she became downright insulting, treating COVID like it was nothing and giving us the harrumphing and shoulder rolls indicating that we must be idiots to be concerned about eating inside at a crowded restaurant. She then stalked off with no further comment. We left, walked across the street to the restaurant at the Hotel Prieuré. There we were courteously and immediately seated on their terrace and had a delicious meal.

Notre groupe d'amis (6 adultes,4 enfants et un chien) avait dĂ©cidĂ© de se rendre dans ce charmant restaurant Ă  l'entrĂ©e de Locronan afin d'Ă©viter la forte affluence qui rĂšgne dans le village au moment du repas. J'ai donc bloquĂ© rapidement une table auprĂšs du gĂ©rant en prĂ©cisant bien qu'il y aurait des enfants. La salle est joliment dĂ©corĂ©e et la carte donne envie ! Chouette, une bonne adresse ! La suite m'a trĂšs vite refroidi... Assis Ă  ma place, attendant les amis, avec mon chien et mon fils de 2 ans, nous avons entendu le gĂ©rant reprendre l'un de ses serveurs. Certes, ĂȘtre manager est un mĂ©tier qui demande parfois de reprendre son Ă©quipe. Mais en tant que clients, nous ne sommes pas obligĂ©s d'entendre cela. J'ai dĂšs lors senti que quelque chose n'allait pas et la suite allait confirmer mon idĂ©e. À table avec tout le monde, les boissons viennent d'ĂȘtre servies. Les enfants (2 ans, 3 ans et 7 ans) sont Ă  table et s'amusent avec des petits jeux que nous avions pris pour les faire patienter. L'un d'eux ayant une fois haussĂ© le ton en jouant, sa mĂšre s'est empressĂ© de le reprendre. Mais visiblement, cela n'a pas suffit Ă©tant donnĂ© que le gĂ©rant, lui-mĂȘme, est venu dans la seconde, pour nous dire de faire moins de bruit car nous dĂ©rangions la table voisine (qui comptait deux personnes ĂągĂ©es et qui ont trĂšs vite montrĂ© leur agacement en entendant les enfants s'amuser)... Franchement vexĂ©s par cette rĂ©flexion injuste, nous avons menacĂ© de quitter l'Ă©tablissement. En effet, les enfants faisaient un peu de bruit, mais ce sont des enfants ! Ils Ă©taient assis Ă  table et n'Ă©taient pas plus bruyant que de raison ! La suite du repas a Ă©tĂ© glaciale... Et nous n'avons mĂȘme pas pu nous rattraper sur les qualitĂ©s gustatives de cet Ă©tablissement ! Bref, nous n'avons pas passĂ© un bon moment.

À la sortie, nous nous sommes permis d'expliquer au gĂ©rant qu'il n'avait pas Ă  nous reprendre de cette façon. Ce Ă  quoi il a rĂ©pondu : "Vous vouliez que je fasse quoi ? J'ai trois tables qui se plaignent de vous !" Et bien, peut-ĂȘtre fallait-il, comme dans toute brasserie, prĂ©voir une salle pour les familles et un autre pour les personnes ĂągĂ©es ou les personnes qui veulent plus de calme... Aucune remise en question et de brĂšves excuses sans grande conviction...

Petit conseil, tant pour l'accueil que pour la sympathie du gérant ou la qualité des plats (riz sec, risotto et crÚme fades, légumes et pommes de terre pas suffisamment cuits, rapport qualité/prix trÚs limite...), passez votre chemin.

Mise Ă  jour : en consultant le ticket avec nos amis pour faire nos comptes, nous nous rendons compte que nous sommes 2 Ă  avoir pris le plat du jour (sans entrĂ©e et sans dessert), que nous avons payĂ© le prix d'un "entrĂ©e + plat ou plat + dessert". The food was truly excellent, and I’m sharing some photos to show how impressive it was. The staffs were kind and welcoming. After a sightseeing tour through the village Locronan we were looking for a dinner option, it was already very late. We noticed this sweet looking place with many people sitting outside enjoying their meal. Happily we got a table and the kitchen was still open willing to serve main course and desserts. We took the "plat to jour" and we were very pleased. I decided for Panna Cotta as dessert and I was over the moon with this decision. It was a fantastic end of the day. We really enjoyed our stay. The restaurant was a gem in every possible aspect! The young man who bought this place a few years ago is making sure to deliver the exquisite and modern dishes while paying due respect to the traditions of Brittany’s cuisine. The “Village menu” is a very good “value for money” - we loved the shark and buckwheat and the pork in amazing sauce (unfortunately can’t remember the name).

After a sightseeing tour through the village Locronan we were looking for a dinner option, it was already very late. We noticed this sweet looking place with many people sitting outside enjoying their meal. Happily we got a table and the kitchen was still open willing to serve main course and desserts. We took the "plat to jour" and we were very pleased. I decided for Panna Cotta as dessert and I was over the moon with this decision. It was a fantastic end of the day. We really enjoyed our stay.
