It's true that this place is 'off the beaten path'; you will not find any signs pointing you in the proper direction. There is a secure parking lot next to the lighthouse, but otherwise there is no real parking. If you park at the lighthouse, you will need to walk at least 20 minutes, some uphill, to arrive at the bar.
The bar manager was 15 mins late, and rude when we went to check in with our reservation because we had a service animal with a valid doctor's note. He explained that it was clear on the website that no animals are allowed. We obliged because we had already paid for our reservation, and he was cutting the conversation off, saying, "I don't have the time to discuss anything further because I'm already late." Not my problem you are late to work.
Also, I would like to point out that the man in charge of 'Perching Experience' had his dog running around. We were holding my small service animal, not knowing whose unleashed and non-collared dog it was, when the man rudely said, "What? Your dog can't walk?" While my partner went to take care of our dog I saw a duo who had been waiting since opening be turned away because the owner stated he could have max 10 people in the bar. In fact, we were only 7 people at the bar so there was space for them.
Furthermore, the inside of the bar and the top view point of the bar were closed 'due to COVID', leaving only the outside balcony accessible. Having 1/3 of the bar closed, restrooms closed, one glass of champagne, and receiving no glass or offer of water, the price of 21 euro is absurd. With all these COVID measures, I found it funny that there was no hand sanitizer stations, and that the owner did not wear a mask. He stated he didn't need to wear one because we are outside, but at the same time he says no service animals and there is a dress code?
After pouring everyone's glass, he left the bar and didn't return to check on anyone. We decided to stop wasting time at this bar, and left. The couple next to us had been sitting with empty glasses for 20 mins. We saw the owner when leaving and let him know that there were customers who might want another drink. He said, "yeah, yeah, I know. I was going to go." From one service industry folk to another, if you don't like customers, get a...
Read moreWe were a group of three women and two men. One of us visited this place a couple of years ago. The place still had a good rating of 4 stars so we decided to go. We made the reservation by telephone on the day of our visit. Having made the payment (5x21 euros) we asked where the toilets were. The guy who I suppose is the owner replied that the (dry) toilets for women were closed due to Covid-19 and that we could have known this because it is mentioned on the website. In my opinion he should have put up a sign at the entrance. I just looked at the website and nothing is mentioned about the lack of toilets for women.
Having paid the fee of 21 euros you are allowed to stay from 12h to 20h. Not offering toilets is a good strategy to get the cash from your clients and then get rid of them as soon as possible. We would stay for maximum 1 hour since two women of our group already needed to use the toilet upon arrival. The owner said we had to decide if we wanted the full refund before taking the bridge to the bar. Since we made the long drive and we were looking forward to the experience, I asked for a discount. After all, we would not stay from 12h to 20h because we would have to go looking for toilets somewhere else. The owner became very unpleasant, unprofessional and was not open for any kind of discussion. He said we were paying 21 euros for the experience and not the toilets.
I was tired of the lack of the understanding from the owner that I turned my back (while saying I had enough of it) and continued to take the bridge to join my friends who had allready moved on to enjoy the view. He stopped me and told me and all five of us to leave. Even at full price he would no longer let us in because we would be nothing but trouble.
After some more discussion we got our money back and left.
We then went to Le Phare in Verzenay where we felt welcome and had a wonderful experience in the garden with a great view and...
Read moreI visited the business's website and it advised of opening hours Wednesday-Sunday and to make a reservation. I contacted the business twice via email and three times via the phone. No response. (First contact was four days prior to visit). I visited the business on the afternoon of a Thursday (advertised open hours) and was told it was shut and I needed an appointment but that it would be open the next day. I submitted a fresh email request and also phoned, both to no response. So I tried my luck anyway and showed up on Friday afternoon and was rudely met by the same proprietor who refused to provide an explanation. He encouraged me to return for a time that he was closed for!
Follow-up: Don't leave a bad review because the proprietor will phone you and verbally attack you for doing so! Must have been nice for him to have someone answer the phone though - if only he had done the same for me the experience could have been...
