Restaurant de la Baie — Restaurant in Saint-Malo

This hotel is a short drive, about 45 kilometers, through pretty countryside, from Mont Saint-Michel, and gets you away from the really touristy area right at the Mont. Rooms are very basic but very clean. Not large but adequate (and not bad for a budget hotel room in France). Decor is "funky" in the 60s manner, with hot pink and bright green, kind of cute. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom is small but fine. The restaurant is good -- mussels and fries in huge quantity! There isn't a beach, but a wonderful seaside view and you can just see the outline of Mont Saint-Michel in the distance. The staff is very friendly and there always seemed to be someone who spoke enough English, although I think mostly French people stay there, and that's fun, too, especially if you want to practice your French. If you are looking for luxury, this isn't it, but it met all our requirements. No AC, but with the ocean breeze and a quiet setting,...

Booked on late rooms.com for a last minute stop over. easily found and a pleasant welcome. Room met my needs, basic but the price reflects this. Importantly, clean and comfortable slept like a log. I was an early start in the morning so just left my key on a hook in the lobby, (I thought that was very cute and quaint, being from a small town myself, the good old fashioned family feel.) The staff were spot on, nothing too much trouble, had dinner and a couple of beers, lovely! even took my beer over the road to sit and watch the sun go down, large beach with fishing community going about their daily toil......
