MEI Hôtel - Restaurant (Soleil Levant) — Restaurant in Sarrebourg-Château-Salins

Mei restaurant was called “Soleil Levant” until 2022; it was a great Chinese restaurant in the heart of Sarrebourg. It went under new management (Lucas Lang), a name change and a complete change of look. The cuisine is mostly of a Chinese style, with few dishes from Malaysian, Thai and Indian inspirations.

I loved the new setting, the green wall was welcoming, the unique bench made with a single block of wood was of a beautiful organic design with inviting curves. Great atmosphere. In contrast, the food did not match the environment. We were 4 of us. The “Raviolis de crevettes à la vapeur” and vegetable nems were the basic frozen ones; The chicken nem may have been done in the restaurant. We wanted to order the traditional canard laqué, but the waiter advised us to order the “Aiguillettes de canard with foie gras” , it was a mistake as the canard laqué next table looked possibly better. The “Bœuf au poivre Sichuan” did not taste the beautiful flavours of the Sichuan cuisine; it did not even taste Sichuan pepper at all. The vegetarian dish “Millefeuille de soja fourrée aux champignons sur un lit de légume” was not good and had nothing of a “Millefeuille” (see picture). The salmon dish was correct.

You will have to buy a side dish for every dish which add another 2-8 euro per dish, it was overpriced for the quality of the food.

If you look at their website food gallery which are not pictures of their own food or cuisine style. Pictures of dishes are only internet stock images of beautiful Japanese food which does not even reflect the cuisine style of Mei Restaurant. Some of the pictures of the chef on this website are also stock pictures of Japanese chefs working in Japanese cuisine. This is bizarre, confusing and misleading. I guess it was red flags that I overlooked.

There is no real competition in this little town of Sarrebourg for this Chinese restaurant (apart from bad Chinese buffets). This restaurant will continue attracting locals eager to eat something other than French. Shame. I would advice tourists to stick to the local , fresh...

Cuisine traditionnelle qui change des buffets à volonté redondants. La qualité y est vraiment supérieure, le service royal et le goût tout simplement exquis. Je recommande vivement malgré un prix plus élevé que les buffets car ceci est un réel restaurant asiatique et il ne troque pas l'authenticité contre du bénéfice !

Traditional cooking that is pretty uncommon asides unlimited buffets we all know too much. Highly superior quality, royal customer care and divine flavours. I deeply recommend it though it is more expensive than buffets because this is a real Asian restaurant and authenticity isn't being diluted by profit!

Lo raccomando davvero benché il prezzo sia più alto dai buffet perché questo è un ristorante asiatico vero e non scambia l'autenticità contro il beneficio!

Bonjour à tous... Alors à mon arrivée ici à Sarrebourg avec ma petite âgée seulement de 9mois, je ne savais pas où allez dormir et je devais immédiatement chercher un hôtel pour nous abrité à cause de la nuit et pluie, j'avais seulement 300euro sur moi, et comme j'étais nouvelle je savais pas où allez et j'ai pris le premier hôtel devant moi qui est celui-ci. Je me suis présenté à eux l'accueil était parfait, mais malheureusement il y avait plus de chambre libre pour nous, et au moment de partir j'avais les larmes au yeux car j'étais sur le point craqué puis le gérant de l'hôtel est revenu vers moi pour une bonne nouvelle, j'ai eu une chambre mais pas celui qui correspondais à moi et ma petite mais bien plus que je l'imaginait🥰pour la nuit j'ai une chambre à 5étoiles ont va dire elle était tellement grande que il y avait trop place pour nous, c'était tellement waouh🥰 le gérant nous avait proposé cette chambre d'hôtel à bas prix exceptionnellement pour la nuit à 75euro et 200euro de caution et le lendemain il m'a ramener mes 200euro et j'ai du oublier ma serviette de tahiti dans leurs salle de bain ont m'en allant😅bon ça va leur faire un souvenir de nous🥰... Donc pour ceux qui cherche, je vous la conseille...
