Les Voiles — Restaurant in Troyes

After reading the mixed reviews we had a mixed time…. Food 5/10 (mains 7/10, sides 2/10) Service 2/10

We were the first people in the restaurant at 6.30pm and were offered 2 tables, front row (beautiful view or back under the shade) It was a very hot evening, 30c and direct sunlight and we took the more shaded. We were still in direct sunlight and so starting getting uncomfortably hot to eat a meal. We asked the front of house/head waitress to move back into the shade, first refused, and when we asked again saying it was too hot, she went mental, started slamming glasses around, was rude, picked up our cutlery and threw them on another table and said “sort yourself out”. We would have walked out at that point but already had drinks in our hand, and the only other restaurant was fully booked. She did calm down after 1/2hr but it did ruin our experience.

The other two people who delivered food and drinks to our table were great.

On leaving I joined a queue of 5 people waiting to pay and there was a queue at the door of maybe 20 people to come in. I guess its touristy enough for the front of house manager not to give a crap about service.

It was our last meal out in our 6 week holiday touring round france, Switzerland and Italy, it was sadly our worst.

Called in last minute after a bike ride around the lake. Told the Manager that was going back to the camp site to have a shower and that I would be back in 30 minutes. She said no problem. Came back as discussed and was made very welcome. Face masks a pre requisite to enter and fabulous cleanliness at the tables on the terrace. Every chair sanitised and the tables cleaned thoroughly. Nowhere else I have eaten in this resort has bothered with cleanliness. Ordered a beer and a local speciality pizza with some unusual meat and potatoes with gruerre cheese. Very nice. Had a strawberry dessert which was like a smoothy with a big scoop of strawberry ice-cream in it. My server was lovely and spoke brilliant English to make life easier for me. will definitely be back. Reasonable prices too with a lovely view of the sunset...

Starters: Good quality melon & tasty Parma ham (4), sweet potato fries (3) Mains: Poor, chewy entrecôte steak (0* couldn’t eat it!). 4 cheese pizza was good but I miss the option of garlic butter (3*). Desserts: really good, best part of the meal (5*). Drinks: Exotic no alcohol cocktail really good (5). Mojito too strong & not sweet as I’ve previously enjoyed it (2). Coffee good (3). Panache (4) Service: Friendly without being over attentive, although they forget the fries to go with the steak & brought the wrong dessert. (3* but feel the team will improve over the coming g weeks…it was a busy Friday night).

Location: 5 Stars…beautiful by the lake with plenty of outside seating.
