The food was good, but very overpriced. Also the service was below the standards one shall be able to expect for such a pricey place. More below:
The first time we went, they had an electrical problem and asked us to leave, so this was our second attempt and right when we arrived (at 07:00pm) an exhausted waiter greeted us and immediately made us feel bad for having even gone, as he was working on his own, the place was full and we should consider leaving and coming another time. We drove 40 minutes to go there (and it was already the second the second attempt), so we decided to stay; actually even felt “bad” for him, having to go through this stress. During the night he did get support from other waiters though and they just kept complaining at every table how much work they had and how tired they were and even after having taken an order from the next table they would ignore us and walk away (couldn’t really understand why they would not just do everything at once). When we finally managed to make the order we did not have to wait longer than acceptable for the steak to arrive, but when I asked for a second steak knife, they didn’t bring us one as they said the other knives we had were just fine. When we were done eating, the dirty plates have not been collected for over 20 minutes even though waiters kept walking by. The steak was good, but for its 100.00€+ cost for 700gr with heavy bone we expected a...
Read moreAfter a strong personal recommendation claiming this was the best steak in the area, I didn’t need much convincing. I went for it – straight to the point, ordered the 250g Irish Hereford beef, cooked medium. Alongside came coleslaw and sweet potato fries.
The steak? Very close to perfect. Wonderfully flavored, beautifully cooked, and the filet was spot on. The herb butter added just the right touch. The coleslaw, while tasty, had slightly too much dressing – let’s call it texturally overhydrated. Not a dealbreaker, but a bit more crunch and less cream would’ve elevated it. The sweet potato fries weren’t bad either, though 20 seconds less in the fryer and they would’ve hit my sweet spot.
Then came the dessert. The warm chocolate cake unfortunately missed the mark – a little too spongy, not quite enough depth in the chocolate flavor, and overall there was far too much fruit sauce on the plate in proportion. It felt more like a cover-up than a pairing.
Still, this place earns a solid 4 out of 5. Yes, with no starters and just one dessert, the bill including tip hit over €70 – and we’re not talking city center Munich. But hey, welcome to the Bavarian school of pricing, where quality meets inflation with...
Read moreGiving this place anything less than five stars would be a crime - the food was that good. Absolutely fantastic.
There are, however, a few things to improve.
First off, the waitress was indeterministically snarky, funny, friendly or borderline rude. You never knew what you were gonna get when you asked her something. She later told us that she was all by herself - fair enough. Maybe mention that up front in the future.
Also it's not the smartest idea to first serve all the adults and let the two small kids sit there for another couple of minutes. Not a huge deal, but also not great.
Oh, and if you seat a party of nine (which had a reservation) maybe check if there's enough cutlery for everyone. We had to "steal" four or five sets from the adjacent tables (it was a quiet Tuesday night, so I don't think anyone really noticed).
Other than that: awesome. We will most certainly be back!
P.S.: My wife hated the "Gitterpommes" - I thought they were the best I ever had. Not sure what to make of...
