Bio-Restaurant StrandGut — Restaurant in Bad Schandau

I just loved everything about the place. We were tourists in the region to celebrate my husband’s birthday, who is a vegan. Found this place online, and after reading the positive reviews I booked a table online. I had requested a table with a good view, which was given to us (overlooking the beautiful Elbe river). For the food, we realized since it’s a ‘Bio’ restaurant, their menu is seasonal. So we ordered Sweet Potato soup, Mushroom Bruschetta, Chicken in Saffron Sauce served with Cherry Tomatoe Risotto and for the vegan main course we ordered Lasagna with Kohlrabi, tofu crumble with Paprika sauce. The food was very very fresh and each flavour could be distinctly different. The saffron sauce was amazing and enhanced the flavour of the chicken. Was very excited to come eat here after I came down from my sunset hike. Arrive at 2130 which should have been fine since they advertise to close at 2200, I even already knew what I wanted as I looked at the menu ahead of time. However I arrive and they say they’re closed, then I say well you’re advertised to stay open until 2200 and they say well we have no guests (there were two tables still occupied, and I am a guest) and that the kitchen closes at 2100 (which I think the lady 100% made up). Unfortunate poor service and very unwelcoming....

Just found this place by chance and it has been one of the best restaurants I found while travelling through Saxony. Staff super friendly, all the food seems to have been prepared very carefully. A bit expensive but it pays just sitting in the garden outside, by the river. Nice place to go with kids and sit on the grass while spotting the trains passing by.
