India-Haus — Restaurant in Berlin

The core principles of Indian food, fresh ingredients, full bodied sauces and delicately balanced spices, are all missing in this eatery. Some people reviewing here question authenticity but there are lots of properly underwhelming restaurants in India as well. These dishes are probably served somewhere on the subcontinent but only in the very poorest of slums.

The problem with the food, I think, results from the worryingly low prices. At €10-12 for a main you simply cannot serve a well-made curry with rice and bread. I'd much rather pay €5 more and allow the chef to spend some time and resources on getting things right. Now you get runny sauce with virtually no flavour or vegetables, bone-dry chicken and the strangest looking duck I have ever seen (anyone else notice the decline in the local raccoon population, by the way?).

On the up side, the staff are quite friendly and efficient. Not enough to ever go...

Went there for dinner with a friend who has several nut allergies and they were very helpful with that.

We had the Matar Paneer and Sag Paneer, both of which were very nice. The basmati rice was great. I asked for my Sag Paneer to be spicy, which it wasn't really, but it had a little bit more kick than usual, so they were probably just being careful, which I understand. I can definitely recommend taking a mango lassi with the Sag Paneer, it's an amazing combination.

The salad they served as an entrée wasn't particularly noteworthy, but it was free and it had a nice dressing, so it still gets...

Tried chicken and lamb curries: Chicken was very tough and the lamb tasted cheap. Maybe veg options are better. Nice ambience in the restaurant however. Hopefully they can work on their cooking. Also even the restaurant wasn’t full during our stay we were asked to move to the back room, the table we wanted to sit was still available when we left. Not pleasant customer experience. My friend wanted to pay by card 8€ which then was rejected due to 10€ minimum (totally fine), even he wanted to give 2€ more tips to reach 10€ they...
