Stadtwaldschänke — Restaurant in Fürth

An excellent treat in this part of Germany! We stayed at a nearby hotel and after researching the area found this traditional Frankonian restaurant which turned out to be quite the unexpected surprise in terms of food. On Saturdays the off menu includes Balkan style meat skewers which were just delicious but one must ask about it, like I said, it's not on the menu. The fish with boiled potatoes was also good as well as the schnitzel selection. I know many would ask why Balkan skewers at a traditional Frankonian place? the answer is quite simple, it's the proprietors. Warm and welcoming people, quick to accommodate you and serve you, make you feel at home whether you are for local food or something to experiment with. We also happened to be there during the Franconian carnival ( Fasching), so some locals were all dressed up and dancing on German Schlager songs played by DJ and eating the aforementioned Balkan style skewers with local Kellerbeir... I call this 21st century...

When you are looking for a cosy and rather traditional German restaurant, this is the place to recommend. The food is nothing extraordinary, but very good. Portion sizes are more than a normal stomach might be capable of, and prices are absolutely ok. The service is very friendly and not slow, however, with a little more routine, it will surely be impeccable. The only con is the lack of parking lots in Oberfürberg, but that's not the fault of...

Fazit (21/35): Das Restaurant liegt außerhalb von Fürth und ist mit dem Auto gut zu erreichen. Parkplätze sind theoretisch vorhanden, jedoch ist es auch ein Wohngebiet und daher ist es nicht so einfach einen freien Platz zu finden.

Das Ambiente erinnert an eine klassische Sportgaststätte und ist in die Jahre gekommen. Das Personal ist zwar freundlich, aber nicht unbedingt schnell. 10 Minuten nach der Ankunft erhielten wir - trotz wenig Gäste - erst die Speisekarte. Auch sonst war die Bedienung irgendwie immer in den hinteren Räumen und nur sporadisch im Gästeraum.

Das Schnitzel (Gorgonzola) war ganz ok, aber nichts atemberaubendes. Achja und geputzt wurde wohl auch schon länger nicht mehr. Bis wir bezahlen konnten, vergingen nochmals 20 unsinnige Minuten, weil nirgends einer war.

Wir sind dann in die Küche gelaufen und haben die Bedieung geholt. Laut Außenschild und Bedienung funktioniert Kartenzahlung, doch hat keine Karte (EC Mastercard, Amex)...
