We call this wonderfully, friendly place home each summer. The cakes and beverages are top notch and absolutely delicious. We absolutely love the owner, Gerhardt and enjoy our daily visits to his wonderful establishment. We will be leaving for our yearly summer trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen on August 7, 2024 and look forward to seeing Gerhardt on Thursday the 8th, for our usual hot tea, cappuccino and apple cake. On Friday the 9th, we’ve already made a date to meet our local German friends there. My advice to other American visitors would be, remember that you are a guest in this place. Forget what’s done in America and enjoy the uniqueness of this special place. Das Ludwig’s sits on a really fascinating street, with history and beauty right before your eyes. If you’re in a hurry this won’t be the place for you, actually few places here will meet your needs if you’re in a rush. If you want something fast, you’d better head to the Burger King or McDonald’s! Enjoy the experience of Das Ludwig’s - the yummy refreshments, the friendly atmosphere and be prepared to relax! We can hardly...
Read moreA cafe full with completely rude people. I visited here during a day trip to Garmisch with my family and sat down for a quick coffee. The owner seemed to be friendly at first, however a table who seemed as friends of him or regulars kept staring and laughing hysterically at us without any reason, tohether with the owner himself. My best guess is that my German pronounciation was found funny and mocked. As they spoke very little English and I have more than enough German to speak at a cafe my language of choice was German. For a while we tried to ignore them, but starings and hysterical laughters did not stop, at last we confronted them and asked kindly if there was a reason behind their extreme and unnecessary rudeness but we got nonsense and made up responses. After seeing that others also had a similar experience I wanted to share mine as well. Long story short if you are not a local do not go there, I got to experience something I have never seen in Germany after...
Read moreGoogle said this place had sandwiches, which I needed for my ailing husband. I walked in and the owner guy was there. I asked in English, "Hello, do you speak English," because if he did, it would speed things up. He said no and rudely looked away and dismissively went about his business. I quickly hit the Google Translate for "sandwich." The word is the same in German. I showed him that and he said "No Sandwiches!," pointing to breads and turning away again. I left and walked another 1/2 mile back from where I'd come, found some sandwiches at the supermarket, walked back again where same owner-guy was outside being friendly and cheerful to other customers. Had considered writing a review earlier but I was a little intimidated by that guy. Everyone else in Garmisch Partenkirchen was lovely during our...
