Gasthof Schönau — Restaurant in Heilsbronn

Gasthod Schönau is a family favorite & our go-to for large gatherings. The atmosphere outside is a picturesque biergarten with a serene pond that often has swans & koi. There is ample seating outside, both open & covered. Inside is an authentic gashtof with a brick oven in an open style kitchen where a neatly dressed Italian chef prepares mouthwatering pizzas & other pastas al forno. Fireplaces are used in the winter, adding to the cozy welcoming feel of the place. The food never fails to please, The kinds of flavors you should stop eating because you're full, but finish because it's too good to let the waiter take it away. Good wines, delicious beer, attentive, excellent service & amazing food. The waitstaff are multi lingual too, which makes things easier. I recommend making reservations. They stay busy. Call ahead, but be prepared with a German translator, as the pertain who answers the phone for that rarely understands that I need a reservation for dinner, and not for a room (my Deutsch is a work in progress)....

This Christmas we visited family in Heilsbronn. Our relatives arranged for us to stay at this lovely inn. It is a European bargain. The rooms are very large by European standards. The basic construction is pine and plaster and reminds me of the log home I once owned. The twin bed mattresses in a king sized frame were very comfortable. The shower was strong. We had a corner room with a view of the duck pond and the biergarden. Even with a holiday party going on in the restaurant, the room was quiet.||||Food was excellent. After the first day the staff automatically prepared our favorite morning beverage for the included breakfast. The cost for the room was 80 euros per night including breakfast and all taxes. Das Essen und das Ambiente hätten mehr Sterne verdient. Allerdings waren wir mit den angesetzten Preisen überhaupt nicht einverstanden.

Wir waren am 2ten Weihnachtsfeiertag mit der Familie in dieser Lokalität. Dort mussten wir feststellen, dass entgegen der Speisekarte im Internet als auch gemäß dem Aushang außerhalb der Gaststätte zu Weihnachten eine separate Speisekarte gültig ist. In dieser kostet eine Pizza 14 (!!!) Euro. Im Verhältnis, sowohl zu anderen Gerichten als auch zu den regulären Pizza-Preisen, ist das absoluter Wucher. Die auf Nachfrage erhaltenen Antwort, dass zu Weihnachten andere Gerichte wie z.B. Ente oder Dorade verkauft werden sollen und nicht Pizza ist absolut unverständlich und nicht nachzuvollziehen. Dann muss ein Gastronom auch so konsequent sein und die Gerichte ganz aus der Karte streichen.

Des Weiteren kostete eine Kinderportion Sauerbraten über 11 Euro. Zwar steht in der Speisekarte, dass für kleine Portionen 80% des regulären Preises angesetzt werden. Im Verhältnis zu den Kindergerichten auf der Karte, welche einen Preis um die 5-6 Euro haben und auch nur von Kindern und nicht Erwachsenen bestellt werden können, ist dies jedoch völlig überzogen und -teuert. Dass von dieser Portion ein 6-Jahre altes Mädchen nicht ansatzweise satt wurde, ist noch einmal ein anderes Thema bzw. die Spitze der Unverschämtheit.

Wir bedauern es sehr, dass sich ein Wechsel des Gastronomen sowie die mE damit einhergehende falsche Preispolitik, so negativ auf dieses Lokal ausgewirkt hat.

Wir werden somit sicher nicht wieder kommen. Schade. Aber es gibt auch andere gute Italiener mit vernünftiger...
