This Hotel/Restaurant put me at odds with myself, because my experiences and observations just collided during the stay. Hopefully, the below will put some sense into this statement.
I loved the exterior with the traditional look and build, almost 100 pots outside and a water fountain. The restaurant at first glance was very much the same, but then I began noticing art that has nothing to do with Germany as a whole, such as a North African painting of Bedouins in the desert and on horses, or a copy/print/etch of the city of Bregentz/Bregenz which lies over four hours south of Hoheneken and in Austria. It just felt like there was no reason or flow.
The fire place is stunning, but then again other pieces were added that just seemed tchotchke or gaudy, with the exception of the many, many stone vases and urns, many of which were painted with blue coloring. Those are extraordinary.
What irked me most: The pungent kitchen oil fryer smell. The kitchen fryer smell rose to the second floor and was so extremely strong, that it made me nauseous and my clothes reek.
The leadership staff; leadership personnel was not very friendly. When I entered the restaurant and requested a table, the lady acted like she was doing me a favor. Also, I am fluent in German and know very well when someone dismissively speaks to me and an inquiry, an order or when placing a request.
Lastly, I asked not no service for a couple of days. But, the staff still entered after I hung the do-not-disturb sign. I realize, that hotel has the right to enter, since I am only renting a space, or if there is a security concern, or maintenance has to be done. The staff also removed my sign and took it with them. Personally, I feel like my privacy was violated, and would have settled for a conversation if the leadership cared to explain. But, that did not happen. This never happened to me prior to this trip, so I'm a bit torn about this event. On one hand I know the hotels right, on the other I'd wish we could have solved this as mature individuals.
It is, what it is...

From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance of the restaurant's interior took hold. The decor is a perfect blend ofpleasure of dining at this establishment and I can confidently say that the food, atmosphere and service exceeded all of my expectations.
Nestled within the walls of a centuries-old castle, this restaurant radiates a cozy and welcoming ambiance from the moment you enter. The warm lighting, exposed brick walls and elegant furnishings all add to the charm of the space. And if you're lucky enough to secure a table near one of the windows, you'll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Now on to the food - it was simply outstanding. From the perfectly cooked and beautifully presented entrees to the creative and indulgent desserts, every dish was a work of culinary art. The standout dish for me was the roasted duck, which was moist, tender and full of flavor.
But what truly made this dining experience special was the service. The staff were incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu and made sure that we felt taken care of throughout the meal.
Overall, I can't recommend Burgschänke highly enough. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner for two or a special night out with family and friends, this establishment is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. The combination of exceptional food, stunning scenery and top-notch service make it a...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burgshanke Hotel. From start to finish the service was great. When we arrived, jet lagged and much earlier than check in, they moved reservations around in order to let us check in early so we could sleep. We were only inquiring when check in was so it was a very pleasant surprise when they accommodated us early. Even in our exhausted state we could see how quaint and charming the hotel and it's surroundings were. Once we rested up we were in awe of our location at the bottom of a wisteria lined, cobblestone street leading to beautiful old churches and ancient castle ruins. It was right out of a fairy tale for us Americans! Our room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. Two things were different than we are use to in the US. The bed had a wooden divider down the middle so maybe not ideal for newlyweds but it was completely fine for us. We found the mattresses to be very comfortable. Also the shower curtain was too narrow for the shower making it hard not to get the floor all wet but the shower itself had great water pressure and a wand so we were happy. We ate dinner at the restaurant our first night and enjoyed it very much on the outdoor patio. We also loved the continental breakfast every morning especially the coffee, rolls, yogurt (with many toppings) and eggs. We found all the food to be good quality. The hotel staff spoke English well enough to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall it was one of the best places we've ever stayed....
