Café Weismann — Restaurant in Kaiserslautern

We’ve come several times since the ownership and name changed. The first couple times everything remained the same as before and we were super pleased.

Unfortunately, this last visit shifted our view a bit due to several things:

The burritos are smaller. It used to be you’d have trouble finishing one of your didn’t bring your appetite. All of us noticed the were significantly smaller this time. The French toast is a smaller portion as well. It seems the slices of bread used are smaller than what was used before. It was also a bit undercooked compared to the perfection of this dish in the past. Half of the bread and Brötchen we got was stale The menu now states at the bottom that the prices don’t include tip. Now, to an American, this may seem like no big deal. The problem is tipping doesn’t work the same here in Germany as it does in the US. Wait staff is paid fair wages and tips are really an addition based on service. To put this on the front of the menu when normal German restaurants don’t do this feels like purposeful misleading to get those unfamiliar with customs here to tip higher.

Other than these things, the service was still good as usual, the restaurant was still clean and well kept, nice ambiance, and the overall taste of the food was still good. Will still return, but that could change if the portions get any smaller while the prices...

Das Café Hinz auf den Erzhütten ist ein kleiner Geheimtipp für alle Kaffeeliebhaber und Genießer von frischen Backwaren. Mit seinem tollen Service, der guten Lage (bspw. als Start für eine Wanderung) und der großen Auswahl an leckeren Backwaren und weiteren Gerichten ist es definitiv einen Besuch wert.

Der Service im Café Hinz ist einfach hervorragend. Das Personal ist äußerst freundlich, aufmerksam und immer bereit, den Gästen zu helfen. Man fühlt sich sofort willkommen und gut aufgehoben. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr gut informiert und können Empfehlungen geben, falls man unsicher ist, was man bestellen soll. Sie nehmen sich Zeit für jeden Gast und hatten bisher immer ein Lächeln am frühen Morgen für mich übrig.

Die frischen Backwaren sind für mich ein wahrer Genuss und auch bei meinen Arbeitskollegen (leider) sehr beliebt. Von knusprigen Croissants über Muffins bis hin zu leckeren Brot - hier findet man alles, was das Herz begehrt. Die Qualität der Backwaren ist ausgezeichnet und man merkt, dass hier am Backofen noch ein Bäckermeister am Werk ist.

Die Lage des Cafés auf den Erzhütten ist hervorragend. Im Umkreis gibt es genügend Parkbuchten bzw. Platz (sogar kostenfrei). Der Kaffee im Café Hinz ist einfach köstlich. Ob man einen klassischen Cappuccino, einen aromatischen Espresso oder einen normalen Kaffee bevorzugt, hier wird man nicht enttäuscht.

Aber nicht nur der Kaffee, auch der Kuchen im Café Hinz ist ein Highlight. Von saftigen Schokoladenkuchen über fruchtigen Obstkuchen bis hin zu cremigen Torten - wer hier nichts findet, dem ist nicht mehr zu helfen. Insofern auf jeden Fall einen...

We came in (family of 4) without a reservation. (We didn't know you needed one, but just so y'all know. It's probably best to get a reservation ahead of time.)
