We found the hotel through the Michelin guide. It is conveniently situated near to Osnabruck and the motorways - we were en route for Norway via the Hirtshals ferry from Denmark to Kristiansand. We were given a warm welcome by the manageress who helped with our cases. The hotel was built in the early 1900s, and retains lots of wood, tiled floors and high spacious ceilings. It is now owned by a very enthusiastic and efficient couple who are working hard to provide exceptional food. The room we had was large and had some interesting stained glass in one of the doors. We had a very good meal in the hotel restaurant. During the meal I asked the the manageress if she could reconfirm a restaurant booking I had for a group of 10 the following night in North Germany. When our meal was over the owner's wife came to tell us that she could not find the restaurant where we thought it was. The chef then tried on his computer and after about 15 minutes and a number of phone calls (and this was after 11 pm) we established that the restaurant I had booked was not suitable as it was a half hour drive from the hotel we were staying in the following night, rather than the stroll I had envisaged. The chef eventually contacted the hotel we were staying in and they gave a few recommendations. The chef after discussion with us rang one and had a chat with the owner who was on his way home for the evening. The food sounded good and the owner was prepared to take a group booking so it was made. The following evening we had an excellent meal at Hotel Restaurant Dorfschaenke in Budelsdorf. I was most grateful for the kindness and effort put into sorting this out for me. I am not a German speaker and the whole thing could have been a disaster. I would thoroughly recommend this establishment and would certainly stay there again if...

Read moreWe stayed here out of sheer luck, as we were on a road trip to Spain. We called many other hotels and they were all full, so we were fully surprised, since we expected nothing, to come up to such a beautiful building and such lovely staff. They treated us with kindness and the room was very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and big. The best part was the food. We had dinner and breakfast there and were pleasantly surprised by both. Everything felt very familiar and lovely. I will always...
