Gaststätte Freiland — Restaurant in Munich

My adult daughter and I stumbled upon this place looking for a place to watch the World Cup final. We were escorted to a back room where about ten rather serious looking people. That seriousness subsided when France scored their first goal and a fan of France bought the room a round of shots...and then another and another. We had a blast. But you most likely wont be there for the World Cup so I will continue.

We found out that we were actually in a Serbian restaurant. Having never had Serbian food i was very excited. The only concerning thing was that they did not take any credit cards...only German debit cards. My daughter was able to find an ATM so that we could properly indulge.

I had the smoked trout appetizer and to say it was amazing is an understatement I AM going back just for that. We also got the smoked gouda appetizer, the meat platter and I had the kabob platter...there may have been a side salad in there somewhere. Ot was all spectacular.

We were clearly tourists, but they dumped a German menu on our table. We asked if we can have an English menu. The waitress just answered ‘NO’ and left without trying to translate the menu to us.

So we had to Google the menu. The ill-mannered waitress asked if we wanted to order drink. We said not yet. She then said: “NO DRINK?!” (How do we know what to drink??)

The most ridiculous thing was, we asked for the bill, waited for 15 min, still not bringing the bill to us. We started to stand up and leave, then she came. Pressed whatever amount she entered in the EFTPOS machine.

I asked: Can I check the bill before I pay?

She: No, you can’t until you paid first

Me: how do I know if it’s right?

But she insisted we had to pay before we could see the bill.

After we paid, we realised she added tips on her own!

So we were unhappy and asked.

She said we had to pay her tips!

The whole dinner was horrendous. Food came late, service was bad and such a sneaky...

incredibly rude and unfriendly staff that was racist towards tourist. they took 15 minutes to bring us the menu and took 20 minutes to bring out the bill. They also charged us tips without asking for permission and claimed that it was mandatory. The old hag of a waiter also keep impolitely raising her voice for no reason. DON’T come to this restaurant unless you enjoy bad food and bad service. i’m looking for the 0 star button as 1 star is too generous.
