I’m going to start this review by saying that I haven’t stayed at this hotel recently so I cannot comment on the hotel and its facilities. My main issue was with the customer service I encountered when trying to book my stay.
My boyfriend and I found a Groupon deal for a 4 night stay with breakfast at this hotel. Having phoned the hotel’s number that was provided multiple times, I never received a response so decided to email them instead to book in our check in date. The response time on email wasn’t good and I was often waiting long amounts of time to hear back and when you’re waiting to book your flights, a few days delay can make a lot of difference to flight prices! It would’ve been much more ideal if I could’ve just spoken to someone over the phone to arrange my check in date ASAP, I’m not sure why they would provide a telephone number if no one has the intention of ever picking up.
Throughout the back and fourth emails it felt like they were trying to convince me not to use the voucher. I got told multiple times that the Groupon deal was recommended for couples in the age bracket of 35+ and that the hotel’s atmosphere may not cater to younger people. It felt like age discrimination, just because we are a couple in our 20’s doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t enjoy a quiet, relaxing stay at a hotel, so I’m not sure why this kept getting mentioned, since it was a recommendation and not a requirement to be over 35.
I told them that my family and I had stayed at this hotel previously so I knew what to expect. They replied saying that I cannot use my Groupon voucher at all anymore because I was a previous guest. My parents had booked this hotel 7 years ago, back when I was still a child so I don’t see why this should impact mine and my partner’s ability to book in this stay as adults. They kept saying that this promotion was only valid for new guests and since I’d been at the hotel before I couldn’t use it. There was nothing in the terms and conditions stating that previous guests (especially guests that were children last time they visited!) couldn’t use the voucher. I asked for some type of proof and they provided a screenshot of the terms saying ‘Please note that if you have already availed any Karma Properties promotions, you are not eligible to use this voucher.’ The key word being promotions - I’m not sure what this has to do with being a previous guest. Neither me or my partner have used any promotions in the past, even my parents who booked in 7 years ago booked directly through the hotel without using any type of voucher/promotion, although I still don’t see how this would invalidate my voucher. There were no clearly defined terms stating that a previous guest couldn’t use the voucher. At first I thought I wasn’t reading this correctly, but after asking multiple other people to read through the T&Cs no one can find anything that corresponds to what they’re claiming. After trying to deter me multiple times from using the voucher, to me it seems that they have made this up to stop us from saving money and getting a good deal. Based on their logic, even someone that was a baby when they last stayed at the hotel, wouldn’t be able to use the voucher 18 years later because they’ve already stepped foot inside the hotel, it’s absolutely ridiculous.
I am currently waiting for a refund from Groupon, which is a shame, as from what I can remember this was a nice hotel. This is extremely disappointing from the hotel as this is something that we were really looking forward to. I don’t understand why they would sign up to be involved in a Groupon deal if they have no intention of honouring the terms and conditions they set out. The wording of these need to be changed so that other people know not to waste their time and money in the future. Or if they don’t want anyone saving money on their booking, they should remove the offer entirely instead of inventing something to stop people from booking...
Read moreMy Experience at Karma Bavaria from May 18, 2025, to May 24, 2025
I'm thrilled to share my fantastic experience at Karma Bavaria, a resort located in Schliersee, Germany. This was my first trip to Europe, and I had a wonderful time. To help others make the most of their trip, I'd like to share some valuable insights and tips.
Getting to Karma Bavaria
Schliersee is approximately 53 kilometers from Munich, and the journey takes about an hour. To reach Schliersee from Munich Airport, take the metro (S8) to Munich Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). From there, catch the train (BRB RB 55) towards Bayrischzell, which runs every 30 minutes. The journey takes 45 minutes, and from the station, it's an 8-minute walk to the resort. If needed, you can take a taxi for 15 euros.
Saving Money
One crucial tip: download the DB Navigator app to plan your journey and buy tickets. A group ticket from Munich Airport to Schliersee costs 35.50 euros, and adding a taxi ride from the station to the resort will cost 50 euros in total. I initially spent 240 euros on a taxi from the airport to the resort, arranged by the resort. By taking public transport, you can save up to 200 euros.
The Resort
Karma Bavaria is a comfortable and luxurious retreat. The staff is friendly, helpful, and speaks excellent English. Upon check-in, you'll receive two guest cards that grant access to public transport within the Schliersee region. You can explore the area without worrying about transportation costs.
Exploring Schliersee
The region offers plenty of attractions, including:
Wendelstein mountain (accessible by cable car) Spitzingsee lake Tagernsee Schliersee lake (boating and relaxation)
Munich
We spent two days exploring Munich, purchasing a Bayern ticket for group travel, which cost 42 euros for a 24-hour period. Munich is a beautiful city with historical landmarks like Marienplatz, the Residential Museum, and BMW Museum.
Tips and Insights
Breakfast costs 19 euros per person, but you can save by preparing your own breakfast with eggs, bread, and salads from a nearby supermarket. Dinner is reasonably priced, and the resort offers themed nights with international cuisine. The resort has a great swimming pool, gym, and jacuzzi. German hospitality is exceptional, and the staff at Karma Bavaria is friendly and helpful.
Departure
On our final day, we took a taxi to Schliersee station and then a train to Munich Hauptbahnhof, followed by a group ticket to the airport.
Final Tips
Travel light with one 23 kg suitcase and one carry-on. Use public transport to save money. Enjoy the German hospitality and the beautiful scenery.
I hope this helps, and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful...
Read moreI booked a two bedroom room fractional unit. They claim that it can accommodate 6 adults and a few children. But the unit has only one bathroom and I cannot imagine people standing in queue in the morning. We were only two and could manage. But those who go there with three families and children if not used to living in slums may find it difficult to share one toilet. There was hardly any space for bags. When people go for holidays they should have big bags. We have been using one bed as a luggage rack. Cannot imagine 8 ten bags fitting in. There may not be any moving space even. They have provided a safe in one bed room which is kept locked always. When asked for opening it to keep valuables it was informed that locker belongs to the owner and it cannot be opened. They should take out the locker and instal new locker for guests and may bring the kids wner's locker when he comes to stay rather than saying lockers are not for guests. No welcome drink is provided. No fruit basket which normally is provided with their fractional units. The breakfast was the same all seven days without even a single change. Even by mistake some deviation can happen. But this appeared to be 3D printed to have same without even the slightest variation all seven days. The people are so rigid that they told me that the restaurant won't open not even 1 minute before 8 O clock when requested to let me in @ 7.50 and have whatever is ready so that I can catch a train to Salzburg. Normally breakfast start at 7 in the morning. Many places especially international destinations where people have to catch early flights keep the breakfast even at 6. These people are so rigid that they even keep the door locked which generally is not the practice within the hospitality industry. However the location and property is worth visiting once. But the management is not fit to be in the hospitality industry. During my stay I heard from acquaintances that they were facing water shortage in the main building. When complained they were informed that the pump needed repair and they are waiting for the insurance claim to repair it. Either they should have stand by pumps or they should get it repaired immediately rather than harassing guests continuously for 3 days depriving water. Overall the experience was hostile instead...
