Sheepers by Tanja — Restaurant in Stühlingen

The food here is very good, however the service is beyond poor. We messaged to make a reservation and we're given a time window between 6pm and 8pm. We chose 7:30pm. Halfway through our main course the staff were starting to turn everything off (lights inside and out). Whilst waiting for our desert, two of the staff started smoking and drinking by our table. The waiter proceeded to slam cutlery in the drawer next to where we were eating. The message was clear: hurry up and get out.

I recommend driving 5 minutes to the Hong Thai restaurant in the next village, the service there is 5 star, food arguably better and on a three course meal for two people you'll save 50 euros.

Avoid Sheepers like the plague, the food might be good but it's expensive and the staff just want to get (you and themselves) out of there.

Stay away from this restaurant, poor service and...

I told the waiter 3 times that I am allergic to sesame. All the allergenes are indicated on the menu. I order the salmon trout. I receive salmon (so, a different fish) and the dish was decorated with a mixture of herbs and sesame seeds. When my wife stands up to complain, the waiter and the kitchen staff deny that there are sesame seeds in the mixture used as dish decoration. Only after insisting, the manager checks the ingredient list on the mixture container and of course sesame is in there. While my dish was taken back, the manager admits that the fish was no salmon trout, but salmon. This is really bad because you have to be honest about what is going on the plate. I order then a different dish, something simple just to be sure: grilled chicken breast. I receive an unbelievably small portion, basically a bite for the cheap...

An excellent and surprising address at the beginning of the schluchtensteig! Or at least it was surprising to me… a restaurant where the food is local and organic. The whole table got something different and every plate was excellent - REALLY excellent! - and the association of tastes original. Ok it is not cheap. You pay the price of the quality but it is definitely worth it. (We did not have wine) I put 4 stars for the « ambiance » because, there are a bit too much stuff of the walls (on my left was a painting of the Christ, behind me was the last supper and on my right was carved skulls) was but I really liked the lights in the cattle bells (great idea) and the whole wood deco.
