Teppanyaki styles vary from region to region from conservative to more on the showmanship styles of the West. The conservative styles from the East do lack in show but more than make for it in quality and attentiveness. The opposite can be said about the West. This restaurant tends to lack on both with the exception of the stake. The stake definitely seems to be imported from Japan. The taste speaks for itself. The problem i see with this restaurant in particular is the amount of people the Teppanyaki iron plate master has to tend for which in this case is up to 16 people and two independent grills. This is a problem because in our case we were served a very modest serving of vegetables from from the grill and no meat to go with it. By the time you are done with the vegetables which of just a few minutes, the grills master is finishing up the vegetables servings on the other grill which in turns creates a vacuum of food and flavor. The grill matter had to start with the meat on your grill side and you will have to wait quite some time for your meat serving. This cycle will repeat itself various times during the meal session. This is very strange. The Germans around us were content with this which was puzzling to say the least. Either they are used to this and this is the Teppanyaki style throughout Germany or they just do not know.
Not sure if the personnel is naively from Japan but based on the body language, mannerisms and accents, at the very least the have been he for long time. The typical Japanese display of corporal movement is not there.
The soups, sushi and dishes noticebly lacked on both the sugary and salty ends of the flavor spectrum. The salads were somewhat typical German salad.
There are nice touches such as hot towels and green tea as well as dessert (non Japanese) included in your meal package...
I'm not sure if i will come back to this place again. I will keep looking for other alternatives but the lack of such will probably force us to come back...
Read moreI visited here in late January with 3 friends, we did not book and just turned up on a Saturday evening hoping for a table. We were welcomed in and sat down with in 5 minutes. The restaurant was almost full which is always a good sign.
The staff were very attentive and accommodating (considering I speak no German or Japanese).
The menu is easy to understand and pricing is good considering the fact that dinner is the entertainment.
We ordered drinks from the varied drinks menu and food from the great food menu. Our food started to arrive quickly, the sushi was beautiful and the salmon was the best I've ever had, cooked perfectly right in front of me. The chef will cook any vegetarian food first as well. I had the "Complete" menu which was all beautifully cooked, filling and the time between each course was just right.
All in all eating here was a great experience and I'd happily fly over from the UK again just for their beautiful food. Just be prepared to spend a good 2 hours here as it takes more time to cook everything fresh in...
Read moreThe food was great, we had a lobster menu (it was the most expensive one). But no matter how delicious it was, it was completely overshadowed by terrible service. I believe that people come to places like this to not only have an exceptional gastronomical experience but also to enjoy the atmosphere, the show (you don't see a professional chef cooking in front of you every day) and world famous Japanese service (read: politeness). The service was good but in the end, as I was in the middle of having my dessert, a waitress came and started explaining that we should finish because other guests are already waiting. Without further ado, she went ahead and took my apron off (while I was still eating) and told us that we can put on our jackets in the hallway.. To say the least, the evening was spoiled. Btw, this was the time when my husband and I had got married a few days before and we decided to give ourselves a splurge and enjoy a fancy restaraunt... I'm not coming...
