Gasthaus Kranz — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Bonndorf im Schwarzwald

Stopped for lunch while touring the area. ||||It's a tad old fashioned in the furnishings but very comfortable, although my partner kept being blasted by cold air whenever people entered or left. ||||My partner and his son each had the pork schnitzel with potato croquettes, while I went for the venison goulash with Spätzle. All three dishes came with a small mixed salad starter. ||||The salads were a good colourful mixture, but swimming in dressing so that the cucumber and radish slices were very soft and no longer crunchy. Half the amount of dressing would have been plenty. There was no bread offered with the salad, which was a shame as we could not mop up said dressing!||||My partner enjoyed his pork, commented it was a tad dry. The same could be said for my venison. It was a huge portion, easily enough for 2 people, very tasty but the meat slightly dry, although I realize venison can be a dry meat as it is very low fat. ||||We asked for a doggie bag which confused them as they have apparently never done take away. ||||In all, a decent lunch with friendly service....

Stopped without a booking while passing through on a bike tour. They had a garage to safely lock away our bikes and put us in a great room which was more like a small suite. Separate bathroom and sofa bed for another guest in the corridor. Wifi available and decent tv with the usual channels (German only). Very clean and great shower in the bathroom with plenty of hot water. Bathroom had a window, which they don't always.

Food was decent as was the service. Typical German menu which is a bit heavy for my taste, but that's what you expect in a place like this. For 2 people with water and three beers we paid under 40 euro.

We would definitely recommend the place.

Oh. One negative. Walls are indeed very thin. You can hear the next room very clearly, luckily our...
