Wasserschloss Inzlingen — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Lörrach

We needed a place to stay for one night on our way back from Switzerland and decided to skip the nearby big city Basel and cross the border to Germany to find a little German town. We settled on Inzlingen because of the Wasserschloss. Built in 1286 by a Bishop and totally renovated in 2001, we hoped we could sleep in the Wasserschloss. ||One telephone call to the Gastehaus made it clear to us, this was not possible. ||||The original Wasserschloss is now an expensive restaurant. But we could sleep in the Gastehaus, which is on the other side of the parc, some 500 meters up the road. During our reservations the friendly woman told us, in perfect english, that if no one was present in the Gastehaus the moment we arrived, we should come up to the Wasserschloss, the restaurant actually, so they could accompany us back to the Haus. ||||After walking through the parking lot and crossing the bridge to the Wasserschloss, we were welcomed at the restaurant with a perfect cup of coffee and warm words. The friendly staff reserved us a table for the night and walked us back to the gastehaus. There was plenty of room for parking, both in front of the hotel or at the back, where our room was situated. The room (no 1) was spacious with a lot of closets and room for suitcases. Shelves, drawers and hangers for your clothing. Two chairs and a table, a mini bar, a television, but only German and Swiss channels. The beds were two singles, pushed together. Room 1 is on the ground floor, the back door can be opened to sit outside. I noticed balconies on the back rooms of the second floor, but no balconies on the front of the house, so always ask for a room on the back. Al the outside windows and doors have outside aluminium shades, which you can lower to the ground. ||||The only minus was the free Wlan, complimentary with an english description. It didn't work on my iPhone. Since we were there only one night, this wasn't a problem, but if you stay here for work, this could be a problem. I didn't ask the staff about it. ||||Now be aware of the restaurant. It is a great restaurant indeed, if you are a wine connaisseur you'd probably want to try it, but the prices are magnificent too. If we'd known, we probably had searched for another place. Menus go from 76 euro to 98 euro. So including the wine and water, you will pay 180 - 200 euros for a dinner for two. I do believe we could have chosen a la carte, but those prices were not much different. The food is great though, surroundings and atmosphere are throughly magnificent. Everything was already tastefully decorated for Easter. And the staff, the same as in the afternoon, was very friendly and did whatever they could to make us feel welcome.||||Breakfast was served in a room downstairs in the gastehaus, not in the Restaurant, with an assortment of bread, very fresh and some still warm. Coffee or tea, fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, milk, marmelade, jams, Swiss cheese, salami, boiled eggs, ham... overall a great breakfast! ||||Checkout was no problem at all. The diner of the night before was put on the room and the bill was no surprise, all though as stated before, diner did cost twice what we payed for the room. All in all, would we stay here again? On our way back from Tuscany I had booked this hotel which is on the German- Swiss border. After a long day driving we arrived and we were shown the bedroom which was very pleasant - I believe the whole hotel was refurbished a few years ago and it definitely had a good designers touch` to the interior. What we did not realize was that the nearby Schloss/ Castle is also owned by the same family. What a very pleasant surprise it was to have a fabulous meal in the stunning garden which overlooks the castle moat and countryside.The family were all on hand to welcome. cook gorgeous food and serve some very special red wine from this region.
