Banana Leaf UG — Restaurant in Walldorf

To be honest when I first heard the name Banana leaf , my mangalorean brain was both tempted ,curious but Skeptic..Most recently I went to this place in Mannheim serving South Indian which really did not meet my expectation..In the last 5 year in Europe I have never had an authentic South Indian food experience outside of India.

This Saturday morning ,I thought I find out for myself, what the hype is all about. I got here with my family and was pleasently greeted and treated by 3 lovely women enterprenuers, who started this place.

The order was taken super quickly & then What I did not expect happened , Just like in a typical South Indian place , the food is prepared right in front of you. There is no hidden kitchen where the action happens. In minutes it was all ready , The breakfast thali, a masala dosa and chai.

The very first bite of the Dosa with the coconut chutney took me back to my home town.Wow! You know this is the taste of genuine authentic home food. We were so impressed we packed biryani to cover us for the night.The drive all the way from Heidelberg was totally worth the exclusive fresh items in the thalli, Freshly made Puris , Pongal with „Cashews“, Idlis chutneys Sambar and vada, Bajji , Kesri Baath with real Safron etc.

Bit tired of the cut copy paste Indian hotels in europe.Same curry where different boiled meats are typically dumped.

The banana leaf is authentic where food is made with the care and attention it deserves.This is definitely the best South Indian food you will get in Europe, & I have tried to eat Indian food in almost every country I have visited. 5 stars...

2 years back in 2020, we organized a baby shower with the food ordered from Banana leaf.

I would say about this restaurant

The delicious food was well prepared.

The items delivered were hot and fresh and We could taste "the hard put effort" in preparing it.

The delivery was right at door step and she went above and beyond up to the delivery flat.

Salute to your effort and thanks for the extras : dosas. We didnot expect when even ordering in bulk, she gave us some extras and more than sufficient sambhar.

Lastly, our guests of 15 and we ordered for 10, had enough for takeaway at the end of the day.

Keep it up as you have the customer satisfaction that rarely reataurants provide.

I will definitely recommend and advise to go there atleast once and try the South Indian delicacies here. Medu vada is...

We dined here a couple of days back. The food was delicious, the waiting staff were nice. The 1 star is just for the owner, please learn how to be polite with guests, you are ruining regular customers because of such behavior. If your book keeping on orders is not proper then it's not our fault. Why are we going to lie about what we ordered and why won't we pay for the food we ate. If the waiting staff and all of us clearly mentioned how many cups of tea we ordered, how can we all be wrong and you alone can be correct?
