It is easy to get carried away giving a negative review, especially if one is hungry so I try to stick with the facts. First of all most people around us looked to be happy, so maybe we had some bad luck. We booked a table for 1930 on the terrace, the host told us there were many free tables so we could just take the one we liked, and did not escort us to the table. We took a table for 4 that looked free, it was set for 3 persons. After a few minutes came 4 young men that had served temselves from the buffet and claimed the table was already theirs. When they saw we were seated with our small children they moved-on and took another free table. I wanted especially fried duck today and did not want to go for the buffet, so I asked to take it from the menu. My wife only wanted a drink. Our children 4 and 7 were wery hungry and I wanted to take the buffet for them so they could start eating immediately, but the waiter said it was not possible since they would have to serve themselves. I said it is really simple, the kids take 6 peices of sushi with salmon on top each. 48 minutes after we sat down finally my duck arrived, after I went inside to check. I asked for the kids sushi, the waiter said he was coming with them next. At 52 minutes two plates with maki with salmon came, our 7 year old accepted one plate, but the 4 year old rejected it since he does not fancy noori, and he repeated I want fish on top. At one hour the sake nigri had not yet arrived for our 4 year old, and we wanted to start eating, so I went inside and took the last 5 nigri pieces, with salmon on top, from the buffet myself to give to him. At 1 hour 3 minutes the waiter came with the 6 nigri for our 4 year old, and was surprised to see that he already had got food. I explained I had to pick from the buffet as 1 hour waiting is a bit too long for a 4 year old. The waiter carried away the 6 pieces we ordered again without asking or apologizing. We finished our meal even if by now it was becoming bedtime for our children, then asked for the bill. I was not in the mood for any discussion so I paid without any comment or tip, but the restaurant had charged our 7 year old with 12 euro for the wronlgy delivered maki, and more than 5 euro for the 4 year's old nigri of the buffét : while the buffet price would have been their age+90cent and be all you can eat. My 4 year old asked where his last piece was, as he can count and was still hungry, but I had to tell him it was too late now. It feels unfair to wait so long for the simplest possible order while watching other tables completing 4 courses and dessert. I wrote this review 1 hour after arriving back home to un-bias a bit and put the kids to bed first. I think we will give the restaurant a second chance hoping it was only bad luck. The food was...
Read moreWe visited Asienpalast Restaurant in Darmstadt, and overall, the experience was okay. The variety of food was good, and the atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant were clean and acceptable.
However, the behavior of the staff was not impressive. They were formal but not friendly or welcoming. We had to wait at the entrance for someone to seat us, and later, ordering drinks took a long time.
As the restaurant offers a buffet, the plates and bowls of food were not replenished frequently, and many remained empty for long periods. Perhaps this was because it was Sunday, but it was still disappointing.
In total, it was an okay experience. The food quality was good, but the service and overall management of the buffet were not top-notch. It’s not a place I’d describe as excellent, but it’s fine for a...
